Works great no issues, make sure you have the correct hose set up.
Background:I am a GC Superintendent for medium to large scale commercial construction projects so all the welding crews we contract bring the big boy equipment. They dont always have time to do mockups or small stuff we need done for owners and architects so I picked up the Plasma DS-55 and the yeswelder MIg 250 pro to keep in my trailer to do odd and ends as needed in a pinch. I’m super hands on and came up in the trades, so using tools isn’t foreign to me. Its not exactly my first time trying this type stuff but by no means can I call myself a welder or metal fabricator. I’ve been lucky enough to have learned basics on the Millers by some really talented welders and fabricators. Busting these tools out on the project I knew I was gonna get some side eyes hurled my way, but it’s all good, I don’t plan to quit my day job.The DS-55 set up (and 1 minor issue):Wanted to do it on my own see how easy it was for an average person, Set up is easy for the most part. I’m Using it in the field on a commercial jobsite ran off a temp power spider box, so I can use either voltage. Compressor is my typical 5.2 gallon Makita Big Bor used for framing, tank keeps up with no issues. The fitting installed on the air intake filter is a push connection with a cheap tubing, but it comes with a 1/4”male quick connect (I think type M) which I couldn’t use because we use larger hose fittings similar to automotive, not sure why but that’s what our tool yard insists on putting on. I Ran to the depot and swapped the hose and compressor fittings to match the ones sent. With all the parts put on my hose and compressor, that’s when I realized, they used like a silicone or glue or around the outside of the push fitting into the air filter. I could feel some clear thick substance and the fitting was not easy to unscrew. I don’t know if this was an accident or returned part but in the Amazon add video you see them remove it and swap it out very easy, I had cut the thin layer of whatever off, back the plastic filter with a pipe wrench, use a decent size crescent and slowly break the fitting free. I was already looking up replacement filter because I thought it would snap. I did get it broke free and we were ready to roll. We run commercial electrical OSHA Twist lock plugs so this being a residential style plug I had to grab one of the adaptors I keep around, make sure you know your plug type and the plug type on the machine, or plan to cut the chord and put a new end on which I will be doing next week so I don’t need the adaptor any more. Plugged it In, fired it up, and started cutting everything that was or wasn’t tied down. Worked nicely and cut clean, especially for not knowing the settings very well. I got some extra consumables because not knowing what I’m doing I’m assured to burn some up. They send two of the .8 mm and one 1.2mm which will go quick. The yeswelder consumables you order separately are actually measured in inches so the .8mm is the .03” and the 1.2mm is the .045”. Make sure to get the ones for the correct torch. Honestly it’s a great machine and even my welders came over and started playing with it and all were super impressed for how small and great it worked. Unless you plan to get a Miller or other high end set up, get this one and you won’t be disappointed. Worth its weight 10x over and assuming we take care of it properly I see this being around for a while. If your on the fence just get it and you won’t be disappointed. If something changes I will update the post. You tube: when you search videos they have the old blue DS-55 or the DS-55pro. For the life of me I couldn’t find the standard DS-55 takes the new black and red configuration. The blue set up and filter style is not the same as the new black and red. After watching the DS-55 pro videos I found, it seems this machine is the DS-55 pro it’s just Yeswelder dropped the “PRO”… not sure if there’s any spec or technical differences but if your looking for you tube assist, just watch the 55 Pro, it seems to be the same.Cut through:1/8” mild steel16 gauge cold rolled1/4” hot rolled1/2” mild steel1/8” aluminum1/4” stainlessLeg to Trailer railing

Blew up after 6 inches of cutting.
I was super disappointed. I have wanted one of these for a long time. I got it and set it up the same night. Set up was pretty easy but took a bit of tinkering around and I had to buy a different connector to get it attached to my compressor for easier use plugging and unplugging the connector. After that, I got it dialed in to be able to cut. Figure it took me 15 minutes of messing about to get air pressure and and power set up. Then I cut a 2 inch piece of 1/8 in steel. Amazing and it cut like a dream. Then I made another cut because...why not. Decided to make one more cut on some 3/8 steel. 1/2 way through I heard a loud bang/pop come from the unit and the lights in my garage went out. Blew the breakers. Re-set breakers and plugged machine back in, turned off and breakers were fine. Turned machine on and the breakers blew. Amazon was great about taking it back though. Noted someone else had the exact same problem. Gonna try again. Maybe I just had a bum unit. Now, I am providing an update. Amazon replaced the broken unit with no questions. I got another one in the hope that the first was just a dud. The second one works great. Cuts metal like crazy and no problems. I am still getting a considerable amount of slag but this is probably more due to user error than to the machine since I am still getting used to it. My one suggestion for a new user is make sure the air pressure is high enough. That seems to help a lot. Also, there is a bleeder valve for moisture. Make sure you clear the water out of it regularly. A lot more water builds up there than you would think. After using it on and off for an hour last night there was a lot of moisture that needed to be bled off.

Great little plasma cutter - great tech support too!
This is a great little plasma cutter!I will admit that I was disappointed at first when my cutter would not fire up. After checking all of the settings and connections carefully, I contacted tech support. They contacted me an hour later and prompted me to 'pop the hood' and peek around for anything that might have gotten knocked loose during transit. Found it. Tightened it. Fired it up. Cut everything within reach.

Completely worthless machine
Like most of you, I was compelled to buy this machine after seeing so many reviews on YouTube stating that it was a great budget machine to start plasma cutting with. The CUT-55DS was well packaged and the accessories seem of decent quality. Upon firing it up for the first time, it merely hisses air. Also, there is a significant air leak inside the unit itself. No arc happens, no sparks. It is merely an expensive air nozzle at this point. I have gone through troubleshooting steps quite thoroughly to no avail. Multiple outlets have been tried, as well as my 220v outlet I use for my welder. It fires a pulse of air and that is it. It does not matter what current setting, pressure setting, or setting on the machine itself is set to, it refuses to arc. It is not a matter of grounding as the ground clamp is connected firmly. It should also be of note that the ground cable is made of copper clad aluminum, CCA, which is straight garbage. Not that it matters much because the 6-8 ga CCA cable is connected to what is at best a 10 awg connection inside the machine.Get a different machine.
