Great machine
Many years ago, I had a White's QXT Pro and absolutely loved that machine. But as life goes, I sold it because I needed the money. I started getting the bug when my son told me his wife gave him a metal detector for Christmas. So I did a lot of research and decided to buy a machine that was the best value for the money. Sure, everyone wants the top of the line wiz bang machine, but who wants to fork out the big bucks for one? I narrowed down my search to 3 models each from different manufactures. According to the reviews I saw on YouTube, the Vanquish 540 outperformed over and over again. Having used it in my backyard, I was amazed at how accurate its ability to ID different metals, not to mention, it's ability to separate and differentiate between metals close together. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and can't wait to start going out and using it for real!

Very impressive quality and features.
This Minelab Vanquish 540 detector is awesome. Picks up everything you throw at it. Uses 4 rechargeable AA batteries. Did not get the Pro Kit. Comes with the V12 coil which has excellent depth and good discrimination. Volume controls for audio and separate volume for iron (with firmware update v1.1). Blue-tooth headphones compatible. Comes with an excellent Pin Pointer. Very happy with this purchase.

Excellent entry level model. I always find something, so it is very accurate
I thought I would get two coils but only got one but still the set was a good value. It is so interesting to look for stuff. It is always an adventure. If you own an older model detector, you may consider the 600 or 800 models. Although, the 540 model will do more than expected.

Gold Magnet
Super easy to use. Best of all it will find gold and silver. I have found 4 gold rings in 3 months and plenty of silver coins/jewelry. This machine was a great investment and a lot of fun to use.

You'll get foiled if you buy this detector!
I purchased this detector in hopes I would get some good finds on my property. I own a 145 year old victorian mansion in Michigan, known as "The Bruce Mansion". Many people have frequented the property over the years so there has to be something significant left behind to be found. I just have to have the right detector to sort through the trash to find the treasure, the Vanquish 540 IS NOT IT!. They claim that their pre-programmed modes will do this work for you, nothing could be further from the truth!. In "Coin" mode with the sensitivity set at the highest level without chatter (22), I pulled 6 pull tabs, countless foil and aluminum bits and ONE penny!. I took a bunch of coins and programmed their specific ID numbers in and discriminated everything else out. The 540 did a lot better after doing this, I pulled 3 nickels, 6 more pennies and only 2 bits of aluminum from the same area but it wasn't without work on my end. I had to go over each find from multiple angles to ensure I was getting a "TRUE" ID. I have used this detector in all the modes throughout my property (2.5 acres) and it does acquire deep objects but the ID numbers are ALL over the place and you can't trust what they are telling you. At least the pinpoint feature works well, I don't use a shovel, just my digging knife. My holes have been around 3 inches in diameter and 6-8 inches deep on average. I have since purchased a Fisher F19, although it doesn't have all the wiz-bang features of the 540, I can say without a doubt, I trust the F19 target ID numbers over the 540 any day of the week!. The 540's slow processor seems to hold on to that "junk" signal. There have been times where I've pulled the detector off a target let the display clear then go over the target again only to get different results. If any product were to fit the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none", the Vanquish 540 would be it!.
