Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Textbook for Materials Science (4 Vol set)

TEM Bible
I bought this book as soon as I found out I would likely get a job working with TEMs. I had already bought a very physics oriented book by Reimer that is also excellent, but this book is simply a joy to read. Ample color diagrams and real micrographs together with witty, keen narrative make it the first technical book in years that I have read till the wee hours of the morning. I think that if you can read the whole book and retain 90% of what you have read and have the opportunity to apply it in real life on an actual TEM then you will be able to call yourself a TEM expert of sorts.I have found that reading the Reimer text together with this one makes a hard to beat combination. When the physics gets too tough in Reimer I take a break and read this text and get a better intuitive grasp of the material or an alternate derivation with a few less triple integrals, then delve back into Reimer with renewed vigor. To the authors, I would like to buy you both a round of beers some day, this text is timely and I am glad to have found it when I did.

Great volumes for learning the basics and referring back to during research
I paired this with sitting in on a class on Electron Microscopy and doing research using these methods. Reading will only get you so far in understanding, and so will research. Pairing discussion, reading, and hands-on work is most effective for feeling confident while using expensive equipment that is easily damageable and accurately processing and interpreting collected data. These volumes provide good base knowledge and visuals to build upon through other types of learning. The methods I was using, Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Laue microdiffraction, were not both covered in depth, though what was included was still useful information. These are the books I found myself referring back to the most on my work measuring residual strains in natural materials.

Great practical balance between Theory and How-To
As a graduate student who is currently taking a lab course and being trained in the art and science of TEM, I find this to be an excellent resource. Reading "Part 1 - Basics" as I became familiar with the instrument, and then moving on to the other more detailed sections as needed (Part II = Diffraction, Part III = Imaging, and Part IV = Analytical TEM) has helped immensely in understanding what I'm doing when working at the microscope.I used Fultz & Howe, 3rd. edition for a TEM-theory class last semester; while it is also an excellent book (more rigorous in terms of theoretical basis and derivations), I find that Williams & Carter is a better place to start in getting acquainted with the many aspects of TEM. The large, color diagrams in the 2nd edition are also very helpful, and this is another aspect that distinguishes it from Fultz & Howe.

Must have book
The item includes 4 volumes for a total of ~800 pages. It gives the basic knowledges on TEM, spectrometry, diffraction, imaging, and also on the instrument itself. However the chapter are not going too much in details about the physics, but addresses clearly what is important to keep in mind when using a TEM. Therefore it is a must have book for any user.I recommend to complete with other books like those from RF Egerton, especially for any EELS related topic that includes the thickness measurement of a sample. Other works from I. Pozsgai may also help in simplifying the mass-thickness method.

Great TEM book
This is one of the best text books I've ever used. It's very readable, & does a good job of presenting difficult material. I love the references at the beginning of each book detailing what different acronyms mean, and what different variables may stand for. They also have good 'how-to' sections of the book for specific processes in the TEM, like how to make an SADP, and so on. They really wrote this with the student in mind.

Great Books / Publisher Error
First of all, these books are phenomenal. Without doubt the most clear, direct, well written texts I have used in my graduate work. They are a must have if you do any TEM work, especially in crystallography or metallurgy. So why the two stars? There seems to be some quality control issues with the publisher. I paid for the 4 volume set, and received 4 books. BUT, I have now realized preparing for my TEM exam that my copy of Part 3: Imaging is actually a second copy of Part 4: Spectroscopy in a Part 3 cover. How does this even happen? I'm way outside any sort of return window, but if some kind of resolution is offered, I'll change this. In the meantime; disappointing.Again, awesome text, but check all four of your books when you receive them.

Comprehensive textbook for TEM and related techniques
This set of textbooks include almost every aspect and technique in TEM and related fields. Readers from different levels can benefit by referencing the relevant part according to their specific interests/questions. However, from my point of view, some widely applied techniques/methodologies, e.g. for the for the High resolution imaging processing, the basics of image filtering, the geometric phase analysis (GPA) should be included. However, it is no doubt this set is the best and most comprehensive TEM reference book up to date.

The bible of electron microscopy
If you are ever going to touch an electron microscope - especially a transmission type electron microscope - make sure that you have this book readily available to you. You do not necessarily need the new edition. The contents are pretty much the same. However - while the first edition was easy to read, the second is even more so. The occasional colour images and a modernized language really do help. Also make sure to get the paperback edition, which is conveniently divided into four books.

Spedizione superveloce
Illustrazioni a colori.Venditore molto affidabile, imballo perfetto; ho ricevuto il pacco un giorno dopo aver effettuato l'ordine.

Transnission Electron Mikroskopy

Very confused, please beware
The book that showed up is only the 2nd volume of the book it also has fraying at the top and bottom? Its not even the one from the picture at the very least and the listing states 1-4 of the series. Be wary
