Great read for an ubiased summary of Islamic History
It's condense, direct and most importantly; free of bias. In fact in controversial issues (e.g. Karbala or Uthman RA murder etc.) Dr. Najeebabadi and his editors have provided multiple perspectives of scholars (even Shia vs Sunni opinions) so as to give the reader a complete comprehension of the issue.A very light read that you can get through quite quickly and leaves you with a craving of more details of certain parts of history - but that is not the objective of this book, it's clearly meant to give the reader a summary of the rich and mosaic history of Islam and all the major events since it's advent to the point where we are today.

I'm currently reading Book 2 of this wonderful series on the history of Islam
I'm currently reading Book 2 of this wonderful series on the history of Islam. Originally written in 1922, It weaves together so many narratives in a concise and understandable style so that one understands the emergence of the Shia and Khawaarij very well. More importantly it gives an expansive view of the political and military dimensions of the spread of Islam. If you want to understand how we got to where we are in Syria and Iraq, then this is the first step to take.
