These totally work!
Don't be fooled by the lazy peeps here complaining about it not fitting a "standard" water bottle, your standard might be different from others standard water bottles, don't get mad, complain and give 1 star because it didn't fit the bottle you had, get a bottle that fits and go on with your day! I have found many different brands it fits on. I prefer the 1.5L bottles of Fiji or 1L bottles as the 1.5's are hard to find. I drill a 1/4" hole in bottoms of them to prevent a vacuum. I will take a little time to get your drip just right for how long you want it last. I like the 1.5L for weekends, I go to my cabin almost every weekend, fill and set them on Friday morning come back on Sunday night and maybe an inch of water is remaining in the bottle, if its really hot they are empty but the soil isn't dried out that much, tomato plants will droop or wilt over if dry soil, mine are rarely like that when i get home and only when its 90+ outside. I'll use 2 or sometimes 3 in one bucket (I'm a bucket gardener in the city) if I'm going to be gone for more than a weekend. I love these things, so will you if you have a little patience and tenacity to get the drip rate you want and you'll love them too.

Not Worth the Money
These were a waste of money. Even with the valves all the way open, they do not drip. The bottle was full even after 24 hours. They also do not fit on a regular size water bottle (they fit on soda bottles) I tried several adjustments, but the result was always the same, no water came out unless I squeezed the bottle.I had a similar type plant water system I used a couple of years ago, they worked great, they did not have valves. They had two fine holes at the bottom where the water came through. Never lost a plant with them.I got the old ones out and using them again. Working fine. I only bought the new ones because I have more plants to water now and needed extras.I'm thinking about drilling a couple of holes in them like old ones had.

Sort of worked, wouldn't buy again
I was going to be gone for almost 2 weeks and wanted something for my outdoor deck planters to keep the plants alive, so I tried these. I tried to use 2L bottles, which are just too big and top-heavy for the spikes...they wouldn't stay upright and the weight of the filled 2L bottle would push the spikes into the soil to where the spigot was touching (or embedded in) the soil and that messed up the drip pattern. I ended up leaning the bottles against the deck railing to keep them upright. Smaller bottles would definitely be better, but I didn't try them. The spikes arrive in a compact package with the drip spigots separate. When I inserted the spigots into the holes in the spikes, I discovered they don't seal and water leaks around the spigot tap, no matter how firmly inserted. I ended up having to use plumbing thread tape around all the taps so they wouldn't leak.Calibrating the drip was a total pain. Using the included calculation, I needed one drip every 30 seconds. It was very time-consuming to time a drip, adjust the spigot, time the drip, adjust the spigot, time the drip, adjust the spigot... Especially since the knob on the spigot was not at all precise. It was extremely frustrating. If used on indoor plants with much smaller bottles and over much shorter time periods, they might be ok. Just have some thread tape handy and be prepared to spend a lot of time fussing with getting the drip calibrated.

Almost the best
The spicket works very well. Water flowes at any rate you want slow drip to fast. The problem is when the dirt gets saturated the weight of the bottle causes the stem to slide into the dirt. This causes the spicket to be clogged. It is still a good idea and product

work well
Easy to set for drips per minute. Don't forget to poke a PIN size hole in the bottom of the bottles. No instructions come with so go by reviews. I tried it without the pin hole and it cannot drip properly. Put in a pin hole and it's great.. I bought 4 different types before vacation. This is the Best! ordering more.

DO NOT BUY
i thought that these self watering pieces would make my life easier with my hundreds of house plants. They are a disaster! The water bottles that you screw into them don't seal properly. I've tried multiple brands of water bottles and nothing seals. So if you bump it in the slightest amount the water bottle looks all over the floor drenches the plant. Absolutely useless. and they don't go to a slow enough drip to not allow that entire bottle of water to go into the plant within an hour. Ridiculous item. Do not buy!
