delightful
One of the things I love most about Jen Turano's books is the characters. They each have a clever, quirky and unique personality that delights me. They are complex and complicated and I am always in awe as to how she creates such a masterpiece. When I begin her books, it does take me awhile to get used to the heavy reliance on dialogue and the way the characters get distracted and lose focus. But that's probably what makes them so endearing, they are like real people, they are like me. I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out....so excited that I may need to go back and re-read some of her previous books.

Not worth the time: Some spoilers
The Good: Overall this was a sort of cute story. It was very clean. The author certainly understands how to write witty conversation and there are certain discussions that I thought were kind of funny. The Bad: Quite frankly this book was disjointed and the dialogue is confusing. The characters spend so much time talking around a subject that I forget what they were trying to say. The are continually interrupting eachother or changing topics. When they do talk for long periods of time they all have extremely vast vocabularies that they utilize in order to go on and on and on. The dialogue was jumpy and so was the plot. Here is, in general how most of the book went: guy does something to offend girl she gets angry and storms off, Guy tracks girl down, they argue/discuss in a long-winded fashion, they decide to continue their agreement, immediately after guy does something to annoy girl, she storms off/ gets angry, they discuss AGAIN in a long-winded fashion.... and you get the point. There were a few sort of humerous accidents sprinkled in there, but that was generally what happened. By the time I had made it half way through the book I wanted to grab the heroine and shake her and say stop being an idiot and just talk to the guy! And I wanted to shake the hero and tell him to stop being such a clueless snob. My final issue with this story is the lack of chemistry between the main characters or, for that matter of a relationship in general. There were a couple times the hero just couldn't look away from her lips. There was one hug. The hero was twice struck by the heroine's beauty. On the heroine's part she felt affection for him and a couple times her friends talk about her being attracted to him. But there was no evidence of this! It just felt like they were so busy talking around eachother they forgot to give any evidence that they were falling in love (if they even really were). After a slightly unbelievable plot twist at the end they do decide to get married. But again, I felt nothing for either character and honestly didn't care if they got together or not.In Summary: This book was cute and had funny moments. It is harmless Christian historical chick lit. If you have already read and enjoyed this author then go ahead and buy it. If you are wondering whether or not to purchase the book and have NOT read anything by this author my suggestion is to avoid this book. It's not worth the time or money.

FUNNY!
"After a Fashion" by Jen Turano is the first of the series, "A Class of Their Own". After Ms. Turano's first series, "Ladies of Distinction" (several of whom I've reviewed), I was looking forward to diving into After a Fashion. I won't go into details about her first series (which each book can be a standalone book). With After a Fashion, we encounter Miss Harriet Peabody. What a name?! The name itself gives me a smile. Through comedic circumstances, Harriet and one of the wealthiest man in town, Mr. Oliver Addleshaw comes together to put on a show for the elite and tongue-wagging society of New York City.If you know Ms. Turano's works, you know she brings a sense of humor to her novels. The imagery of how vivid a scenario in her books just makes you laugh out loud. That is the case with Harriet's and Oliver's very first encounter. With a mentally unstable "lady", a shocked gentleman (Oliver) and a no-nonsense hat girl (Harriet), the first meeting was one of chaos and delightful dialogue. How does the author come up with this stuff?!!The rest of the plot was intriguing and full of fun and also chaotic personalities and scenes, it just keeps you reading and reading until you realize it was the end. Ms. Turano builds her characters with the use of other supporting characters, which gives you a sense of fullness when it comes to her characters' development. The various twists in the storyline also gives you a strong picture of what After a Fashion is about and will elude to. Give this one a read. Just look at the vivacious colors of her cover, you will see how "fashionable" After a Fashion is and will continue to be.NOTE: I won a copy of this book through a sweepstakes. A review was not mandatory.

A quirky story, entertaining characters, this story is cute and entertaining.
Oh! the quirkiness of this story!! I adore reading Ms. Turano’s books for the snarky and sparkling dialogue, and the witty and loveable characters.A quirky story, entertaining characters, this story is cute and entertaining.Harriet Peabody was a spunky lady, a survivor in a string of cruelties life had dealt her. Behavior and attitude not conforming to the social norms of the day, Harriet landed herself in one predicament after another.Oliver Addleshaw (love these names!) was intent on business, and besting Cornelius Vanderbilt in amassing wealth.Thrown together by quirky circumstances, Harriet and Oliver have no intention of crossing paths again. Ms. Turano tosses more quirky situations, throwing them together in one twist after another.I laughed and I gasped and I cheered them on to the final twist and the last page.ROBIN’S FEATHERSALL | THE | FEATHERS!I purchased this book, and offer my review of my own free will. The opinions expressed in my review are my own honest thoughts and reaction to this book.#Blogwords, Tuesday Reviews-Day-on-Saturday, #TRD, Book Review, After a Fashion, Jen Turano

I may eventually read the rest but I am at the three-quarter mark and they are still bickering. I'm so tired of it.

Lovely Story
A Class of Their Own Series by Jen Turano is comprised of three books: After a Fashion, In Good Company, and Playing the Part. The stories involve three friends, Harriet Peabody, Millie Longfellow and Lucetta Plum. All three characters are in each of the books; however, one character in succession is the main character of one of the books. All three books are well written and I fell in love with each of the characters and their stories. Just absolutely enjoyable reads. Jen Turano is a great storyteller, and I have yet to read one of her books that I did not thoroughly enjoy!

LOVE!!
I’ve recently started reading everything I can find by Jen Turano. I love the wit of her characters, their outlandish names and the unexpected twists in her stories. This book was great. It was a fun, lighthearted read that had me laughing sometimes. There was a bit of a twist at the end that I really didn’t see coming. Usually, stories like these are fairly predictable and this one was to an extent but had a nice surprise at the end that I enjoyed. Totally recommend this book and this author.

ANOTHER WORLD FOR HARRIET
Harriet summoned to the office to delivery hats to the fiancé of a wealthy gentleman. The owner with her ample figure couldn’t, the woman didn’t want to see her again. The fiancé is known to throw things, and oh by the way be sure you get payment in full for the hats. She looses her job, and the gentleman that he is, and also when told they prefer the men to be married. He seeks her out, feeling he owed her something, and this would also help him. The world of fashion she has not known being an orphan, can she learn and be what he wants.

cute read
Wouldn't mind reading the rest of the series. Wrapped up this story so you didn't feel left hanging, but still enough that makes you want to read the rest of the series. There really wasn't much about God to make this a "christian" book. The main character basically had morals that made her not really want into the scheme, but didn't really have a relationship with God. Sort of an unexpected twist, so liked that. Wish the main characters took more time to fall in love.

Funny Godly romance with some mystery
I stayed up all night reading this! I couldn't put it down! Harriet is a poor but strong young Christian woman who was raised in part by a very unloving aunt. Oliver is one of the most rich & powerful men in the country. They were thrown together for business reasons because of an awful girl. But to do this right for proprieties sake, they have to pretend they are engaged. A delightful wealthy older widow inserts herself into this plan as her chaperone & teach her how to be a proper lady, along with a charming older widower. Her past along with a vengeful past employee of his intend to cause scandal & ruin. There were several places where I laughed out loud! And Buford, the dog, was the best! Very clean, no bad words & very focused on God's will for their lives. It was a great romance!

I love Jen Turano's books
I love Jen Turano's books:) Once again set in the late 1800's, this story takes place in a time where the social classes are quite divided. Harriet is a talented seamstress and has a knack for using discarded clothes and turning them into something beautiful. Harriet dreams of owning her own shop and selling remade clothes to the less fortunate. In the meantime, she works at a millenary. She is sent to deliver hats to shrew of a woman(Miss Birmingham), and deliver the bill. Unfortunately, things do not go smoothly and the spoiled shrew gets violent. About this time, Mr. Addleshaw returns home to find chaos. Once things are sorted out, he realizes he cannot have the shrew as a business companion as originally planned, and soon sets his sights on Harriet. This story has unexpected twists and a good deal of humor. If you've read Jen Turano's other books, you can rest assured this one is just as awesome as the others. Happy Reading!

The best one yet.
This is officially my favorite Jen Turano novel to date. I loved the plot, the set up really reminded me of this great TV movie called Borrowed Hearts that has a similar premise, and this one just spoke to me more than her other books that I've read, I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite of all her series. The characters were great, Harriet was very relatable, and Oliver turned into a real sweetheart by the end, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to the background characters in the other books. Overall this was a great read and I completely recommend it to those looking for a clean historical romance.

Great Characters in this Fun Romantic Comedy
What a fun romantic comedy! I always enjoy a paid to pretend romance. There are so many dynamics that make it enjoyable. I got a little annoyed with Harriet sometimes. She is a strong, confident woman, but definitely has her insecurities. Sometimes those insecurities made her do some really stupid things. I thought Oliver showed a lot of patience. Harriet has such a big heart, and it was wonderful to see her bring out the compassion in Oliver as she helped him recognize the needs of others. The interactions between the two of them were always entertaining! I really enjoyed the other characters in the book. I’m excited to read the rest of the series and hear Millie and Lucetta’s stories. I already love both of them and look forward to laughing and enjoying their antics as they find their happy endings.

A Fun Romp Through New York Society!!!
Really enjoyed this light-hearted look at New York's 400 in the 1800’s. The society rules, the class stuctures, the new inventions, the fun people cam have being themselves. I especially like how the characters learned to depend on God, not themselves, giving Him the glory for their blessings. The HEA came in a totally unexpected way, which made the whole story remarkable! Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Absolutely delightful!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. In fact, I couldn't put it down once I started. I liked it so much that I bought book 2 and 3 from this particular series. The book is humorous at times with a few twists at the end. The story seems to be in keeping with the time period. It has no glaring grammatical errors that detract from the reading and best of all it is clean!!! It just goes to show that you don't need graphic sexual descriptions to write a good book. Well done!
