Great Introductory Set to Accompany Rest of Kit
After many years as a disposable cartridge razor and shaving gel guy, I've made the switch to a double edge (DE) razor. Rather than buying an all-inclusive kit, I opted for this smaller set, a Merkur 34C, box of Astra Platinum blades, some Proraso shaving soap, and a Gentleman Jon alum block. I'm pleased to report that I am very happy with all components of my introductory set.The bowl and stand are sturdy and being stainless steel, are very easy to clean. I used alcohol pads before the initial use and a quick rinse in the sink and felt it did the trick. The stand itself was a bit tight to begin with and I had to bend it at the legs to ensure a proper fit for the brush. The brush seems to be of good quality and does have a natural odor to it rather than something chemical or synthetic, which is good. While I do not have direct experience with the different qualities of badger hair used for brushes, I know that this is entry-level. While "best," "super," and "silver tip" are increasingly better than this "pure" brush, I also know there are a lot of silver tip brushes that are dyed in order to demand a higher asking price. That aside, I am fine with what I have for now. With the Proraso soap, it didn't take much effort to create a nice lather. Frankly, I didn't use the bowl because I dipped the brush in the soap and applied directly to my face. However, with other bar soaps, I could see how the bowl would come in quite handy. Lastly, the box this set arrived in does make it giftable. If I had received this item as one, I would have been quite happy as it presents well and the pieces perform well.Overall, I am still very new to DE shaving, but am glad to have some kit that makes me feel like I am doing this properly. Much like making coffee in a French press, preparing loose vs. bagged tea, or listening to music on vinyl instead of streaming it, there is great value and enjoyment in the ritual of shaving this way. Assuming I will become even more comfortable with the process over time, I can see myself upgrading the brush I use. For now, this is a great start.

Kinda watery
Very good product. The soap not soo much a bit watery not very foamy. So no thick foam. It's easy to store and good value.

Fantastic starter set!
Bought this for my better half to try out safety razors for the first time. I made the switch last year, and realized that it would probably be good for him as well, but I use a monster sized shaving brush and regular bowl because I need a lot more shaving cream for my legs, so I knew my brush wouldn’t work for his face! The little bowl is tinier than I expected, but it fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, very comfortable and secure hold, and is just the right size to make enough shaving cream to shave your face. The stand isn’t perfect, but the ever so slight flaw in the bending hasn’t effected it’s ability to function properly, as it holds the brush just fine so it dries after use. The brush is a little “meh” in terms of quality. As others have stated, it’s a bit too soft, needs more backbone to really work up a thick, rich lather. It’s still works though, as I was able to work up a nice lather quickly, just not quite as rich as it would be with stiffer bristles. Can’t speak to the insulation of the bowl yet as I used cold water (south Florida, too hot and humid for a hot shave in the summer). Trade off is that the brush dried very quickly, which is important in hot humid climates like south Florida. The set in general is a surprisingly good quality for the price, just the one caveat to the brush, so I’d say this is probably the best starter set to give safety razor shaving a try.

Great shaving brush set
I have to say that using this brush certainly makes shaving a more pleasant experience. The quality is very good on the brush, stand and bowl. The stainless-steel looks very nice and it is easy to clean. The brush has a good handle, and the bristles are soft and yet they make a good scrub / prep on the skin when using it.The brush makes great foam either from a shaving cream or just from a regular bar of soap. The stand is nice and sturdy, but it doesn't hold the brush tightly and it sometimes falls out of place. Not a big issue but it could be improved. The bowl is compact and helps make a nice foam.

Works well.
I've only had this set for a short time but leaving a review sooner than I normally would to address a need for breaking in the brush which I found to be not needed. The brush performed well from the very first use, providing adequate lather in sufficient quantity. There has been no loss of bristles or finish of the handle. I do not rinse and dry the brush after use, just leave it in my glass shaving mug.I do not use the metal cup or stand. When I need to replace the shaving soap I put it in the glass mug and into the microwave log enough to melt the soap so it fits perfectly in the mug. Cannot do that with a metal cup. The cup and stand also is take up too much space. I can just put the mug with the brush in it on a shelf in my medicine cabinet. I wish I could just buy the brush. I am going to buy another set for my other bathroom so now will have two useless cups and stands. Will update review when I can speak to how this brush performs over time.

Ineffective
The bowl is nice; the brush is very nice. The stand to hold the brush is ineffective. The brush falls off the stand and onto the counter.

Spreads lather evenly.
Even using canned gel, the brush spread the lather at a proper thickness. Made for a great shave. Works with bar shaving soaps just as well. Good value and great feel.
