Safe and Effective
It is the best trap ever in controlling mice, rats, and chipmunks. It is well made and easy to use. We had purchased our first Gingbau Trap about a year ago; and since it was doing such a great job in controlling the rodent population in the front yard, we bought our second trap to cover our large back yard. The biggest plus of this trap is the safety aspect of it. Since we live in an area where we have various wildlife, we feel comfortable knowing that the trap is safe and would not harm other wildlife.

Easy to Setup With Great Instructions - UPDATE - Caught my first and, hopefully, last rat!
Well my rat visitor finally showed up again--in the afternoon---so brazen! So I set up the trap using peanut butter and nuts. It wasn't touched all day, but early the following morning I checked and most of the food was eaten and there were mouse and rat feces, but the door didn't trip. So I cleaned up the mess and left whatever peanut butter remained and figured I would add more bait later in case they would return in the evening. But just a couple of hours later, I heard the door trip, so I ran out and sure enough the rat was trapped! It was soooo sad because he was so upset. I immediately placed the trap in a cardboard box, which helped calm him a bit and then I drove him to a nearby hiking trail/park about 4.5 miles from me. I hope that is far enough. It's a good place so I hope he makes a new home there. So, bottom line, the trap is well made and definitely works! I just received this trap last night (got it in one day!), so I haven't used it yet, but I'm impressed with what I see so far. The instructions are well written with photos and they provide instructions on baiting and relocating as well as suggestions to ensure success. I tested it to see if it would spring and it works fine. It's nice and light weight and perfect size. I was planning on using the trap immediately upon arrival; however, my little rat friend hasn't been around in a couple of days. Maybe that's all I had to do---come up with a plan to deal with him and he would go away. I live in a condo located on a canyon so my community gets all kind of critters including coyotes (residents have finally learned to keep their cats indoors). I have 2 bird feeders attached to my dining room window, which overlooks my patio and provides me with hours of bird watching entertainment. I get up to 16 Mourning Doves and countless House Finches, Juncos and Song Sparrows visiting the feeders. With this much bird activity there are always seed hulls all over the patio, so I sweep my patio at least 4 times a day. Of course, I remove the seed trays at sunset and do a final sweep so as not to attract mice and rats. I reinsert the feed trays into the feeders at sunrise. All my planters are placed on wheeled trays for movability. One afternoon, I noticed a rat peeking out from under one of my planters. Actually he was pretty darned cute (I'm sure some who read this will be disgusted that I could think a rat is cute). I tapped on the window and he ran away. I was surprised since I assumed they only came out at night. The next morning I found rat droppings on the patio. After thoroughly checking the patio floor after each sweeping interval, I determined that he is coming sometime between sunrise and 8 am. (at least that's when he's pooping). I hope that I don't have to use this trap at all, but if more rat evidence appears, I'll set it up. My hope is that he'll come by at night because my concern is that if I set it up during the morning, one of the birds may get trapped. I will update my review with the results of actually using the trap, but I thought I'd at least offer an initial review of the quality.

Easy to use and set
Works better than the two-sided opening one I had before. I downgraded the review from 5-stars to 4-stars because , I need to contact the supplier/manufacturer, no contact info. A mighty chipmunk knocked the trigger wire off of the trigger bait tray and I do not know how the two connect together?

These work better than expected. Have used many times over two years with great success.
Looking to keep those critters away from the house or out of the garden? These really do work. A couple of unsalted shelled peanuts is all it takes, I tightly wedge one into the triangle shaped bracket in the back attached to the trip plate so in order to get the peanut the critter really has to mess with the trigger, which always results in a closing of the door. I don't use peanut butter or fruit because it attracts ants and also breaks down in the rain. Fresh unsalted shelled peanuts is all you need. You can also wrap one in a twist tie and hang it behind the trip mechanism so it activates if anyone goes for the hanging peanut. I also use a long metal skewer going down into the ground along one of the inside walls to keep the trap from flipping over. When it's upside down the front door latch isn't secure and the critter can escape. I have a couple of these traps. The triangular bar attached to the front door not only sets the trap but it acts as a carrying handle when tripped. No worries about getting scratched or bitten, just pick it up and carry it, you can even open the door for releasing without worrying about getting scratched. After you use it a few times you'll see how easy it is to handle. I also spray painted them camo style with black and dark green to blend in better with the outdoors and they work just as well, scents do not matter, just rinse them once in awhile or when dirty. After two years they have they finally worn down enough to require new ones. Although the aluminum feels light, it is sturdy and can take a good beating and biting without getting holes. The trick to making them last is to not leave anything trapped in them for too long. Placing a towel completely over the trap will quiet and calm down whatever is inside. The main intention was to trap rats, but squirrels can't resist them either with a couple of fresh shelled peanuts stuffed into the back. I only set them out when I'm around as lots of little birds and even medium sized Scrub Jays and Steller's Jays have mistakenly gotten into these. All the jays are pretty smart though, once they see one of their mates stuck in one they won't go into them again trying to nab that peanut. Just open the front door and set them free. Despite being accidentally trapped the jays still come back to the yard for games of peanut fetch. Rodents on the other hand will go after a fresh shelled peanut time and time again, just find the areas they visit or their pathways and place a trap securely in that area. Be sure to check your local and state laws about what you can and can't do with what's caught, in or on your property. Relocation rules can vary as well as what's considered a nuisance, and what you can do. Some animals also handle relocations better than others. Good luck.

This trap works on smart rodents…. Now what am I supposed to do with the live animal???
We dealt with an extremely smart rodent that would not “take the bait” from traps that left the scent of those that met their fate by a traditional “spring” trap. I was desperate, my wife was sleeping in another room due to the rodents presence. I spent hours researching and finally came across this live trap option. Since I already knew the rodent’s snack of choice, I prepared its favorite meal of wet cob in the back of the trap and waited. The first night I discovered that the trap had done its job, providing me with a live varmint to now get rid of. (Insert another story here) Out of curiosity, I re-set the trap with more food. To my amazement and my wife’s horror, the trap caught more rodents. Three total! Our rodent issue is now gone and my wife has reluctantly made her way back into the bedroom. This could be the best $20 ever spent in my relationship. Thank you Gingbau!

Best Humane trap I’ve ever used.
I have ordered many similar traps over the years. I don’t want mice or rats hanging around my house but with fruit trees it’s going to happen. This is without a doubt, the highest quality humane trap I have purchased. It is made very well and works incredibly well. It’s a good size, easy to bait and set, easy to clean and very sturdy. I highly recommend this trap. One other thing I’d like to mention it’s larger than others that I have purchased in the past. The others were too short and the mouse or rat was able to back up before the door closed. From one to 10 I give this a 10+.

The Build is Flimsy...
Okay, first of all, this is NOT intended for squirrels. I ignored that, and knew it was going to be a problem. That being said, I risked getting it anyway, and I really have no regrets. But I figured while I'm online buying a Havahart trap, I'll share my experience with this product to help the next person. My problem was mostly with the build. The design is good, but the build is flimsy, and you can bend most of the metal with your bare hands. I've had this product for a month, and I did actually catch and relocate 7 squirrels, 2 of which escaped. (the first knocked the cage over upside down, which allowed the door to fly open, and it ran out. The second one today chewed right through the trap door) The other flaw of the build is it's too light, and I had to keep 2 10 lb dumb bells on top of it after I saw them get on their hind legs, and roll it over trying to get the almonds I left in it. The trap even has some bending from their weight of them... The last problem with the build is that the bar on top that slips out when they trigger the trap is just exposed to the air. If a squirrel is savvy, (and they are) they'll test this trap in every other spot before they just climb into it. So I watched them a few times chew at the bait inside, go around, climb on top, and ultimately trip the bar and close the trap. (hence where I had to set the dumb bells on it, so they couldn't get their face near the bar and eyelet) Don't get me wrong, the trap did work, and did what it was supposed to do. (I believe I got rid of a family of 3 squirrels I had living in the attic, since I haven't heard them since) But I had to really watch them, and how they approached the trap, with some trial and error in order to be successful. I'm sure it's fine for mice and rats, I wouldn't see a problem there, but it's a little small for squirrels, and really not built for as tough as they are. I actually owned 2 Havahart traps that I got from the hardware store. (it's a model with 2 trap doors on both sides) but this is actually a design flaw, and once squirrels get savvy, they just jump right out before it closes. (I had those traps for 2-3 years, and only ever caught 2) I'd set it up in the attic, and just watch them leap out before it could actually catch them. I'm trying for a similar design with one door, where the pedal is at the back of the cage, since that's why I went with this trap, and that seemed to be the most effective design. And I can say the Havahart stuff WILL keep them contained, and they can't chew through it. (I caught one who was out there for hours, and chewed until it's cheeks were bloody, and the trap didn't show any sign of wear) I felt horrible about it, so if you do trap them, try to get to the trap quickly, and not let them sit it in for long...

Works great and easy to use.
I have 5 of these little traps now. They work great on mice and chipmunks. I keep them in the barn, garage and on our back deck. Even though they are made in China they are well made and should last for years. I plan to order several more. They are small enough to fit in a bucket of water for easy disposal.
