LOVE IT! USE DOUGH FUNCTION THEN BAKE SEPARATELY IN 3 LB PAN! GRANDMA WOULD BE PROUD!
This breadmaker was OK-Good, but I hated the paddle holes in the bread. And I wanted regular sandwich-size slices and a "normal looking" loaf. One day I decided to try a 3 lb loaf, and just use the dough function, and bake separately in a long loaf pan. Wowzer! The loaf turned out so good, that now my family eats and prefers my homemade bread, and we rarely buy store bread anymore. Now the 3 lb dough ball is about the largest this breadmaker can handle, and it's too big to bake, but that's OK because it works out perfectly. Here is the recipe: INGREDIENTS: 1 scant tbsp Active Dry Yeast, or 1 packet; NOT Bread machine or "Instant" yeast 1-3/4 cups of hot water, about 140F 3 tbsp sugar 685 grams bread flour (I like King Arthur Flour brand unbleached bread flour with 12.9% protein, but Sam's Club bread flour works OK too) 2 tsp ground sea salt 1/4 cup olive oil, Extra virgin That's ALL! Simple ingredients INSTRUCTIONS 1. Mix the hot water and sugar in the breadmaker pan and stir to dissolve. Add the yeast. Set a timer for 15 minutes for the yeast to activate. 2. On a food scale, measure out the 685 grams of flour, e.g., in a large bowl. Add the salt on top. 3. After the 15 minute timer goes off, add the flour-salt dry ingredients to the pan. 4. Add the 1/4 cup olive oil to the breadmaker pan. Start the dough cycle. On my machine it is menu item 9. 5. With a rubber spatula, babysit the mixing for the first 5 minutes or so, pushing the flour into the evolving dough ball. Hold the dough ball in a corner if needed to ensure the paddle is mixing it well. 6. Depending on how the dough ball looks, add either flour or water to get the right consistence. Dough ball should be somewhat smooth on the top, not ragged. Ragged? Add a tbsp of water at a time. Muddy? Add a tbsp of flour at a time. Once the dough ball looks good, you can let the machine do its thing for the rest of the 1:30 time. 7. Grease a long nonstick loaf pan with olive oil, and sprinkle it with flour. 8. When the dough cycle is finished, transfer it to the greased and floured pan, and try to even the dough out in the pan. 9. Place the pan in an oven, covered with parchment paper and maybe a kitchen towel. 10. I use a Ninja Air Fryer XL oven, and set it to bake for 2 minutes at 180F to create the right temp for the dough to rise. 11. Allow the dough to rise for 35-40 minutes until it just crests the pan. Don't let it rise too long or too high. Remove towel, if used, after 20-25 minutes. When rising is done, remove parchment paper. 12. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes. 13. Take out of oven. Wait 5-10 minutes and then remove loaf from pan. 14. Wait an hour or so for bread to cool, then slice and bag. I use this Wilton bread pan. Long 12 x 4.5 in., 2 Pack Wilton Non-Stick Loaf Pans, Baking Pans For Oven https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032JRVCG I use this bread slicing knife, Piklohas Resharpenable Bread Knife, 10-inch Multifunction Serrated Knife https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1CFYQ5F I use this slicing rack. Bread Slicer for Homemade Bread - Adjustable Bamboo Bread Cutter https://www.amazon.com/Bread-Serving-Basket-Slicer-Knife/dp/B077TK2H2B/ I use the slimmest slice size and just move the bread so I'm always on the slim slice size

I really like the bread maker
So far so good. My mom had one of these and loved it. Quality is good, make a nice loaf, easy to use and clean and surprisingly light weight.

Old one lasted almost 8 years
The spindle in the bread pan dropped out, couldn’t be replaced except by a used bread pan ordered online. The bread mahime is still available, you just can’t get replacement parts any longer. This newer model works well, and I have been using my normal dough recipe and procedure with no problems. I am looking forward to doing pasta dough in it. I normally just make bread dough, and bake my loaves in the regular oven. I will use the Jam feature as I did with my old one. The main concern people on the Oster Help board had, was that there are 13 functions, and the manual covers 11. There are no recipes for the “Cake” function, and people were told that it was for making bread, not cake. The manual only says that it takes 1:30. I can tell you that it mixes for 20 minutes, and bakes for 1:10. Temp? No clue. I used it to make cornbread, just to see how long the mixing cycle was, and when to remove the paddle. One person asked about banana bread, and was told it was not for making pudding. As in British-style steamed puddings, rather than American-style milk/cornstarch puddings? Just an odd and unhelpful answer. The “Quick Breads” and “Cake” settings are for things without yeast, such as banana bread, cornbread, poundcake. The “Bake” cycle is 1 hour; temperature unknown. This seems to follow the modern standard in manuals-incomplete information, with customer service representatives who are not familiar with the product. At all. The ONE good thing about the Q&A board was that I found out I wasn’t the only person unable to remove the bread pan. It wasn’t me. 8)

Good, Reasonably-Priced Model
I'm a bread machine maven because my family eats a ton of bread, and nothing beats homemade. This Oster machine hasn't changed in appearance over the years, but it has added functionality. It now has settings for homemade jam and gluten-free bread, for example. It can make up to a 2-pound loaf, although most recipes make a 1.5 pound (3 cup flour) loaf. The ExpressBake feature bakes a loaf more quickly -- especially useful if you're runnig out of time -- but of course the crumb is more dense. I tend to use the dough setting more than any other because I bake a lot of artisan loaves. I've been using bread machines for decades, though, and I realize most people will just want the press-and-bake convenience. In that case, you may find yourself tweaking recipes to make them work in this machine since every brand uses different rise and bake times. If you find that your loaves are flat on top (as my daughter did), then you've added too much liquid. If your machine strains to knead or comes out with lots of dried bits, then you need a little more. Eventually, you'll get used to the machine to know the recipes that work best. (As a general rule, for a 1.5 loaf, you'll need 1 cup liquid to 3 cups flour, plus yeast, salt, sugar, and butter/oil.) The timer allows you to set up the bread machine in the morning so that you can have warm bread for dinner. Or to have fresh bread for breakfast. This Oster is a good basic machine. Higher-end brands such as Zojirushi tend to have tougher motors and more durable pans. The price difference can be staggering, and this Oster remains a much bigger bang for the buck. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

It would have been nice to know ahead of time that this product does not work in Australia, even though it's sold on Amazon Australia.. And it would have been nice to have some feedback from the seller about the issue during the return process.
