Are these plug and play?

Yes they are plug and play. There is no need to eliminate the ballast. In fact the ballast must be in working order for the bulbs to work.

Bulb is a fraction larger than the old one. It doesn't fit into the fixture. I'm nervous to force it...

I had a similar issue and for one fixture I had to shorten the contact pins with a grinder and it still required a bit more force to get the bulb installed. I have had the same issue with 48" LED bulbs from other suppliers. I don't understand why they don't seem to able to match the length of a fluorescent tube.

Our GE fixtures have an electronic ballast, will these bulbs work with it?

We have an electronic ballast and the bulbs work with it It's not a GE however.
