This is the most beautiful book I've ever seen in my entire life, I loved every bit of it, from looking at it, by holding it, to reading it. It's a true treasure. I will soon buy more to share among friends, this is one 'treasure for life' and a lot bigger than for afterlife.Absolute pleasure!

I'm a native of India and my parents can speak, read and write Urdu. As i understand a bit of Urdu myself, I truly lament, as is the case with any translation, the loss of Iqbal's truly subliminally beautiful work.I'm not sure if I must blame the translation as much as the problem of translating itself, since I haven't had the chance to read comparative works.It still is a good read, though there is one caveat: you have to be open minded to understand the undercurrents and feelings with which the poem has been written. In contemporary India, I can see how this work might be interpreted as extreme and communal. To those who are neutral observers, take this poem as a passionate appeal from a man to his own community and nothing more.The book has an introduction that covers Iqbal's emotional battles, internal and external. Then the main body of the poem with it's English translation and also the Urdu poem in the English script. Finally, helpful notes in the end.The page quality is fair, the binding is decent (though time will tell).The poem might seem redundant and it is indeed in some places, but the best understanding of his work will come with a non-superficial, non-orientalist understanding of Islamic history and culture. The book is translated nicely. It is just the translation of lines, not the elaborated one,but the paper quality of the book is extremely poor.

When you read Iqbal's poetry , you dont praise a "Sher" - You praise each word. This book is so beautiful, and well translated.Some of the lines are so beautiful esepcially in "Jawab e Shikwa" that they can make a person cry.

I was expecting philosophical shayari in this book... It's kind of imbalanced in its approach. .if you are looking for plain and simple poetry or shayari.. This is not the book for it
