Dark Chocolate Covered Oranges, 1 lb

These orangettes are some of the best I’ve found available online without crazy expensive shipping costs. If you’re expecting the same experience of buying them fresh from a chocolatier the day they’re made, you may have to lower your expectations a bit. They are a bit pricy but the quality and quantity are there and the outer packaging was gift worthy in its presentation. The inside box arrived with some chocolate dusting on the outside, which made it not as polished in appearance but it didn’t deflect from the great flavours of the orangettes. Fortunately, the box I received didn’t have any issues with blooming on the chocolate. They were fresh pieces with a shiny coat of dark chocolate. The texture is nice and thick with a good crunchy shell and the candied orange peel inside is chewy. The flavours were perfectly balanced for my tastes, though I am a huge fan of dark chocolate, so if you prefer a stronger orange to chocolate flavour ratio, these may seem lacking in the intense orange flavours for you. I will say these do seem to be a tad sweeter than I was expecting for dark chocolate, and while still delicious, its less bittersweet than I usually go for.

The product description calls the Orangettes "Belgian Vitamin C." Except for the luxury price, I'm sure Belgians must be pretty healthy with these around. They're amazing! The combination of orange peel and chocolate has long been popular, but Leonidas does it very well. The dark chocolate is very rich, not bitter, and completely covers the orange peel (which retains a good flavor and isn't overly sweet). Unlike other chocolatiers who often dip the peel only partially, Leonidas has made certain to put their chocolate center stage by using a generous portion. The result is an addictive treat because the flavors linger on the palate and the Orangettes aren't so sweet as to become cloying. I don't know if these guys are really going to improve your health, but they will definitely improve your day. In my opinion, they're worth the money as an occasional purchase and certainly worth a one-time try. The packaging is a gold box, wrapped in blue and white Leonidas paper with a gilt deep purple box. For shipping, the package was placed inside a sturdy styrofoam shell. Mine arrived within three days and looked like I'd purchased them at the store to give as a gift.

Really high quality chocolate. I’ve ordered from them multiple times and it’s always the same level of high quality. Shipped in high end packaging. Fantastic taste.

I was hoping for the same taste from my childhood and there it was. Packaged beautifully. Could have given it as a gift except that opened it right away and proceeded to put a large dent in the quantity left. Had to hide them in the freezer or eat the whole box!! Really divine.

Quality is not up to par. I have ordered this candy in the past when it was fresh and tasty. This batch is dry and discolored. Seems to be a leftover.

Not a lot of choices for dark chocolate covered orange peel candy that isn't pure sugar. I took the chance on this and so far I won't be purchasing again. The taste is sufficient but the texture is tough which just isn't appealing to me. I guess the good part is, I'm only eating a few pieces at a time.

The orange peel was hard. But I have ordered theses chocolates many times and they were delicious. So this possible a “one off”
