A welcome addition to the myriad of graded exams available for guitar
As a guitar teacher of nearly 20 years, this new acoustic guitar syllabus from Trinity College London is a welcome addition. I have used a variety of exam boards for acoustic grades over the years but this one is my current favourite out of the main three (LCM/RGT, Rockschool and Trinity). I would perhaps describe it as a sort of hybrid between Trinity's classical and rock and pop syllabus' which I also use.The pieces are challenging enough without being overly complicated for the level and there are a wide range of styles and techniques covered to keep most students interested even if they aren't planning on taking an exam. The music is very clear with both standard and tablature notation provided and the vast majority of pieces have downloadable demonstration and backing tracks to go along with them... some of the singing is a bit dodgy at times though! The bonus is that these books are very keenly priced compared to some of the competition, especially considering you get three grades in each book offering excellent value for money. If you are planning on taking the exam however, you will also need the Guitar Scales and Exercises book to ensure all prepared technical work is covered too.
