MTech USA Xtreme – Fixed Blade Knife – Brushed Finish Stainless Steel Blade with Black Micarta Handle and Kydex Sheath, Full Tang Construction, EDC, Tactical – MX-8035, 7-Inch Overall

Picked this little baby up while it was on sale for 8 bucks. I was in the market for a solid, relatively compact do-all chore blade, and this knife certainly delivers. I am doing this review after a couple month's hard use. So far, I have used this knife as a light pry bar (the thick steel really helps), scraper, light digging, skinning, cutting up boxes, and some moderate Baton work while camping. It just keeps taking the abuse, and fixes right up with a bit of oiling, and good sharpening. The general shape of the knife allows for a variety of cutting, and also means its pretty easy to sharpen. Didn't start off the prettiest, and it has only gotten uglier with use, but I bought this as a beatstick, so i'm more than happy with how it's turned out. Did have some issues with the sheath, like many others, but I just kept drawing it in and out, until it quit sticking. Despite that, it still has solid retention, and it hasn't fallen out the times I stored it on my belt upside down (and even if it did, the knives are still pretty cheap to replace). Something to keep in mind, is once you have the too tight sheath sorted, to practice actually drawing the knife out. It comes out at an angle, and replacing the knife one-handed, without looking can be a bit tricky. The handle works quite well, even for big meaty mitts like mine, and i have full control while using it. If you're looking for a good, cheap, solid do-all beat stick, I highly recommend this knife. It suits my needs in a handy, compact package. I am most definitely ordering more soon.

Sturdy little knife, however a bit large for a neck knife. I didn't measure it but it is a thick knife and the blade tapers to a point. It looks to be nice for skinning. It came sharp but not shaving sharp. It comes with a decent Kydex sheath. The knife fits very securely in the sheath and it has a string so you can wear it around your neck. The knife fits so securely in the sleeve that you would really have to tug quite hard to release the knife from the it. The belt clip fits very securely. The handles are much better quality than I had expected and not loose as other reviewers have noted. Overall i am very pleased with this knife. The blade was clean and rust free. Although I'm not into the batoning I see no reason why this knife would not hold up to batoning use. I really like the full tang and think this knife would be a good candidate for customization. Prompt and efficient shopping experience. Absolutely no issues.

Cool knife, just not a fan of the sharp unfinished edges on the handle. And the sheath design is a little goofy. Every time you pull the knife out, little shavings of plastic come with it. The knife was plenty sharp straight out of the box though, and it is a cool design. Not gonna try cutting conduit or anything with this, I know it's no Benchmade. For my purposes it cuts fine and the size/fit is perfect for the hand and unobtrusive on the hip. It's functional and easy to use. Nice value knife.

My initial thoughts regarding the MX8035, since I just received it, is WOW! What a great little knife (and sheath--knife fits snug). Solid but not too heavy and not too small. Used the lanyard as a necklace under my loose button shirt and it conceals just right without being too heavy. I found the reviews and videos to be very helpful and trustworthy before I purchased it and I am not disappointed. I own other more expensive knives but all a little big to carry around everyday. This little gem, however, is not only a good looking knife at a good price but is also the perfect size I was looking for. AS far as durability that is to be seen. I use a stainless steel cleaner bought for my appliances that is oil based and it does a nice job cleaning as well as preserving ( an inexpensive and good alternative).

The knife is solid, the sheath sucks. It's nice to have a clip, but it's too tight on the knife and it's difficult to get it out. You have to really pull and be careful not to cut yourself with the hand that has to hold the sheath. I tried loosening the screws and it didn't make a difference. Good knife though. Quality handle and blade.

I ordered 11 of these knives for my work team. The are all very sturdy and arrived in very good shape. I was able to put a shaving edge on the knife I kept for myself. The metal is good quality and the micarta handle should last for a long time. If you are looking for a full tang blade that can hold a wicked edge, I would look no further. Plus, the price of this blade is outstanding!

SHEATH CLIP HOOKS ONTO BELT OR MOLLE (YES MOLLE) TO KEEP IT IN PLACE WHEN WITHDRAWING KNIFE. FOR ME THE SIZE IS PERFECT TO HOLD TIGHTLY IN A HAMMER GRIP WITH ONLY THE BLADE AND BUTT OF THE TANG EXPOSED, GOOD FOR THRUSTING AND SMASHING, OR WITH MY THUMB ON THE SPINE AT THE JIMPING FOR CONTROL. THE SMALLER SIZE ELIMINATES WORRY THAT IT COULD BREAK FROM THE RELATIVE BRITTLENESS OF STAINLESS STEEL COMPARED TO CARBON STEEL. THE 440C STEEL IS BETTER THAN AUS-8. JUST A GREAT LITTLE CURVED WEDGE OF A KNIFE FOR CHEAP. HOW TO PURCHASE AN MTECH: (1) MAKE SURE TO GET THE RIGHT QUALITY MTECH FOR YOUR NEEDS. THERE IS "MTECH USA" AND "MTECH USA XTREME." MTECH USA USUALLY IS MADE FROM 440 STEEL (PROBABLY 440A) WITH A THINNER BLADE, LOWER WEIGHT, AND COSTS LESS. MTECH USA XTREME LIKE THIS MODEL IS USUALLY MADE FROM 440C STEEL WITH A THICKER BLADE AND COSTS MORE (STILL INEXPENSIVE THOUGH). THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO USUALLY COMES DOWN TO 440 VS. 440C STEEL, STEEL THICKNESS AND WEIGHT. (2) MAKE SURE YOU GET A NEW MTECH. YOU CAN TELL BECAUSE MTECH ALWAYS TAPES ITS BOXES CLOSED AND WRAPS THE BOX CONTENTS IN PLASTIC. SO CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A NEW, UNOPENED BOX WITH THE CONTENTS PROPERLY WRAPPED -- OTHERWISE IT HAS BEEN OPENED AND IS NOT NEW. (3) INSPECT EVERYTHING CAREFULLY. IN THE PAST SOME MODELS (THE MT-151) HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH BENT BLADES. NOT SURE WHY. ANYWAY, INSPECT IT TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS STRAIGHT. (4) SECURE ANY SCALE SCREWS WITH LOCTITE RED. THIS MODEL MAY REQUIRE SOME READJUSTMENT OF THE SCALE POSITIONING SO THAT THEY ARE FLUSH AGAINST THE EDGE OF THE TANG. (5) LIGHTLY SHARPEN AS NEEDED. MTECHS DO NOT SEEM TO REQUIRE ANY LENGTHY SHARPENING TO GET AN EXTREMELY SHARP EDGE. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SHARP OUT OF THE BOX. (6) CONSIDER WHETHER YOU NEED A BETTER SHEATH. MTECH SHEATHS ARE BASIC AND FUNCTIONAL, USUALLY NYLON REINFORCED WITH PLASTIC AND A LOOP FASTENED BY SNAP OR VELCRO TO KEEP THE KNIFE FROM FALLING OUT. BUT FOR SOME PURPOSES YOU WILL WANT A MORE ADVANCED SHEATH GIVING YOU BETTER OPTIONS. THIS SHEATH IS PLASTIC WITH A GOOD BELT CLIP WHICH STAYS ON EVEN WHEN PULLING HARD ON THE KNIFE TO GET IT OUT. FOR ME I NEED NO REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE STOCK SHEATH WORKS GREAT. YOU CAN HEAT IT UP AND POSITION THE KNIFE TO GET A SMOOTHER ACTION WITH THE PLASTIC SHEATH. (7) ENJOY! YOU WILL PROBABLY FIND THAT YOU HAVE A GREAT KNIFE AT A LOW PRICE.

Great knife! Came sharp out of the box, almost to a razor but i had to do a little honing work to get it to that point. The pro's: Good knife for the money Decent (not the best)steel. Good grips. Comes with a fancy clip on the back that will work great for on the belt carry, that is not shown in the picture. Con's: The sheath is AWEFUL I REPEAT AWEFUL!!! Way to hard to draw off of your belt, let alone as a neck knife. The sheath is crap. it is shown as a neck knife, but its way to large for that, and way to heavy for that purpose. the string it comes with for neck knife purposes is way to springy, and when you try to pull the knife out of the sheath, you will pull for a long time because this sheath WILL NOT LET GO OF THIS KNIFE!!!! if the knife had a better molded/looser fitting sheath, i would have given this 5 stars. But that sheath is so hard to take the knife out, for a tactical purpose, you would get killed as soon as you got your hand on it. way to tight. But a hair dryer can fix that. all in all good knife for the money, and if your using it on a backpack it would be awesome, just on your person would be hard to get too if need be.
