Conflicting Interests: Readings in Social Problems and Inequality

While I am reading this for a sociology course, the articles presented throughout this book are easy reads, in that they are not difficult for a beginning sociology major to comprehend as well as just a lay person interested in understanding the social problems faced in our society today. Mr. Heiner has gathered articles from different authors and many different aspects, which after reading them one can engage in conversations and debates and appear knowledgeable on the subject.

Got it for my soc 180 class, I kept it after the class because it is such a great informational book. Even though it is pretty dated, it gives a great perspective to look at all aspects of life. I would recommend that everyone read it and become a little more knowledgeable about the world we live in.

Dr. Heiner is an amazing author. In this book he very clearly articulates the different sociological viewpoints with evidence. The book itself is much different from other "social problem" based textbooks and is actually very very interesting. I own three other books from Dr. Heiner and all are very well written, thought provoking, and intriguing.
