Clears codes and leaves IM monitors intact.
I have been trying this unit out on different cars. Any car I plug it into works but, doesn't see everything and I expected that. On the first day I went to upgrade it on my old XP computer. Had a problem with the driver but, called Actron support and the girl help me through it. Great support so far. On 04/24/18 I did my second software update. This brought the SW ID to FED0. I have an old snap-on 'Brick' (an old scanner) and an AutoXray EZscan 5000 which only reads and clears codes, live data and has helped and still helps diagnose problems. The snap on of course does much more. Now I have this Actron unit. My cars include a 95 Buick Century, 03 Buick Lasebre and an 03 Toyota Rav 4. The 03 Buick works the best. Sees everything and reports all. I don't have any problems with this car so I had to cause one. I disconnected the front right speed sensor and even without driving the car, it displayed the ABS light. Plugged in the Actron and it found it. Here is the best part. When I clear it, only the ABS code got cleared. All the IM readiness test were still OK. I love that. It also reported the Air Bag system but, no faults. It worked in the 95 Buick (odb 1) but would not report the ABS or Air bag sytems. At least I have the Brick for that. (UPDATE) After I did the second software update, it seems I now have to use the cigarette lighter that makes come kind of connection. The unit does not see the car without doing this. Also it does not read the RPMs of this car. Still no ABS. The 03 Toyota was fine but still, no ABS. (Update). After the second update, the unite will now see the airbag system and ABS. I also tried it on a 96 Blazer and it worked on finding an Air bag code. Cleared them but, all IM Monitors got cleared. The review data is awesome. I go into it, I see View Freeze Data, enter into that and see the P0446 code and reported fix (code connect) worked. (UPDATE) I still to do any other scan since I did the SW upgrade. The documentation states it covers through 2013 but was told it will read newer car as well, you just need to use Global. I will test that as soon as I can plug into one and report my findings here. By the way, in seems to do a bidirectional test on the Evap system for the 03 Buick. At least that's what it looks like and I can hear something click in the rear area of the car when I activate it. Will keep updating as time goes on. I tried to find a problem on a 2000 mustang's ABS and got nothing. The light was on but no report about codes for the ABS system or the traction control. It did find an DTCs and shows Reported fixes. I was really hoping it would find the ABS. (UPDATE) Have not done this car after doing the second software update. So far, I highly recommend this unit.

You don't have to be a mechanic to use it!
This is a great reader that works well. I'm not a mechanic, but I have a few vehicles and hate the idiot lights being on. On a 2004 Ford Explorer, it read codes that didn't even activate the warning light. It's super easy to use and gives descriptions of the codes and where to find them. I chose this model over, the 9690, over the 9680 because the 9690 offers additional functions and a carrying case. I chose a merchant that was cheaper (and not prime) and for $20 more received the enhanced functions of the 9690 AND a carrying case. It lets you reset the warning lights and read lots of diagnostic data. The 9690 also works in plain English and walks you though the steps you have to take. One of my vehicles had a miss. This unit was able to tell me which cylinder it was and how to fix it.

Very useful tool
I haven't used this tool for more than a day. I can tell you from my limited use that this tool is more than worth the money you spend on it. Tool use is very straight forward and intuitive. Within 10 minutes of playing with it you have most of its function down. I used it to read my check engine light. Read P0420 which is catalyst inefficiency. I let the car warm up and then selected live diagnostics. You can see all the PID's or you can create your own custom list. I love that feature. I selected the PID's relevent that I needed to see to confirm a diagnosis. short and long term fuel trim shows me that the engine is running rich (too much fuel in the mixture). Coolant temp is spot on. Voltage feedback from the O2 sensors showed me what I needed to see. I then recorded a short 5 min drive and then graphed the data. Downstream O2 sensor is all over the place. Verified that the O2 sensor is working properly. P0420 in my case is a bad catalytic converter. The amount of time and $ this will save you will pay for this tool over and over and over. Subaru isn't listed as supported but I had no trouble with mine. Just had to manually put in the info. Most cars after 2000 the scanner will auto-fill this data for you even the vin #. The scanners troubleshooting is a nice feature as well. Useful for Veterans and inexperienced wrench turners alike, It gives you a checklist so you know where to start and where you should start searching next if that isn't it. As far as connectivity it comes with cables for CAN, Toyota, Ford, GM, Chrysler, as well as the obd2 cable. Which brings me to my only complaint. With all the cables included you would think they would give you the one to connect to your PC for upgrades? Nope. 3$ USB to mini B adapter. That is its type. Its not micro like what is common today on everything. Why not include that? Still this tool is worth it. Go to bestbuy and get the mini B cable for 10$ and your back to fixing things.

worked well for my infiniti g35x
Had 5 codes, I could retrieve the codes and look them up as required. Reader was pretty good for the code info also. It had no problem erasing the codes, and also told me what needs replacement. 3 codes needed to be erased/reset and reader completed that task. 2 other codes I need to do a bit more on. Overall, this is the machine that really helped correct some basic codes. The money I would have spent in a shop to get this info would have been costly, then who knows how they will try to get out of me. Very pleased with this tool, also went to certain auto parts store, they used the same code reader also....glad I found this code reader.

Loaded with features particularly for price.
This scanner is loaded. To get any more access, you would need to buy an uber expensive professional scanner.

Great scanner
I've been using a $20 scanner from Walmart to that only shows the code #, then I'd have to Google what the code was. Well, no more! This thing is awesome. I thought I'd have to pay hundreds to get a scanner like this. Works well, seems durable, it's easy to use, and includes lots of cables to use with different makes. It's already paid itself off. Definitely a good buy.

This is a great scan too for the price
Yes, I do love it. I put off buying a new scan tool for years and when i saw this one at a great amazon price,,, I jumped. While some cars give less information and some more, it graphs o2 sensors, and has a data capture "frame" function which I use often. I capture data at idle and then again at 65 mph. I have captured data on all my cars WHILE they are running fine, so when problems come up,,, i can see what changes. I take the diagnosis feature with a grain of salt,,, but do really love this scanner. It's helped me a # of times already with vacuum leaks, slow O2 sensors, even a clogged air filter.Update 11/5/19. thought about updating cant find anything better. tech support great used 3x

Update: Does not work on any of the OBD1 vehicles I own! Only 1996 or Newer vehicles.
My Snap-On Ethos Scanner finally gave out. Cost me close to $800 new. Well... Snap-On does not support any of their Electronic Tools or Scanner after so a few years. So much for their lifetime warranty. They tried to convince me to purchase a $3500 Scanner with a small discount if I traded in my Ethos Scanner. I informed them that I'm only a Weekend Warrior. Their reply was simple " We cannot help you and we do not support any software or repair maintenance for any Ethos Scanners, You will have to purchase a new model scanner from one of our authorized dealers". Started doing research and I came across this Actron CP9690. So far so good. I've just used it twice. On my 2005 Honda Odyssey and my 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 2.5s. I was amazed and wasn't prepared for the other feature it offered. What? Transmission Module Scanning!!! I didn't even know that my transmission was over heating because the transmission fluid I was using was the Castrol in my Honda. I just had changed it 2 months ago. It didn't even set off the check engine light in the gauge cluster. I felt this machine was maybe like my wife ( a little too dramatic). Now.. here I am telling you this Actron CP9690 was accurate and dead on. Had to sell the Honda 2 days ago. Guess what was wrong? The Transmission! Turns out the Castrol Fluid was not as compatible as the container said. One of the solenoids started malfunctioning because the fluid could not hold up to the heat range of the transmission. So, I changed out to Valvoline Maxlife Transmission fluid (4 qts) hoping to maybe some how buy me some time. It started to shift better but not much change at 1800 to 2100 rpm @ 43 to 58 mph. Well... the Actron CP9690 shows that the transmission is not overheating anymore. I wish I would have purchased this earlier and maybe I would have saved myself. So..ithis review boils down to why you should purchase this scanner and not buy any Snap-On Scanners. I am happy with this Actron Scanner. Note: Didn't have chance to try the OBD1 yet. Update: Does not work on any 1984 to 1987 Carburetors or Computer Controlled Carburetors (CCC) Vehicles. It works on very few TBI or Fuel Injected Vehicles!!! I contacted Actron shortly after my first update and they sent me a new one free of charge, to no avail. It acts just like the original one I purchased. They will not refund your money back for misleading buyers who purchase this scanner for your older vehicles (above 1995). The agent on the phone said there is nothing he can do. 1/16/2021 Update: This scanner is not accurate on certain vehicles older than 1996. It will not work on my 1992 Camaro v8, 1995 Cadillac Deville( No Data), 1994 Toyota Camry (inaccurate rpms). It works fine on vehicles after 1996 apparently. Works as it should on my 1997 GMC Z71, my wife's 2008 Mercedes GL350, My 2002 Monte Carlo SS & 2004 Monte Carlo LS, and lastly my 2006 Dodge charger. I will never buy any thing else from Actron again. I don't like being lied to with false advertisement. Update: I ended up purchasing a Snap-On MT2500 from an Ebay Seller by the name of Siderider2. It was in almost new condition and worked flawless. The operating system was updated as well. Worked perfectly well with all my OBD1 vehicles. Good luck!
