Is this really a 4 hour fire for $24? Am I missing something?

The selling points to this portable campfire are - You can stop and re-start it(light it up for 20 mins, slide the lid on to put it out and relight it any time), no embers to fly out and create a fire danger, it can be used where wood campfires can't, there is no harmful smoke or wood smoke smell to get in your hair or clothes, it's waterproof, unlike a wood fire this is so easy to light and you don't have to maintain it. You have a two foot flame the whole time. If you compare it to a bundle of wood from the store that is $7 or $8 you find a lot of advantages. The bundle of wood last for the same amount of time (4 to 6 hours) But the Radiate only weighs 4 lbs (wood 15 lbs), wood is hard to light, the fire dyes down, needs to be maintained, could have harmful smoke, and you can't start and stop it like the Radiate. Plus Radiate leaves no trace, no scorched rock, left over burnt wood and piles of ash and soot. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions.

Has anyone used this to roast marshmallows? If so does it leave a funny taste or any issues doing so?

One of the answers to this question leaves a youtube link which was very helpful. The Radiate company actually responded to one of the comments with this: "The soy wax used in the Radiate is FDA food grade recycled soy wax. The Eco Briquettes are made from FDA food grade recycled paper. There is no fragrance to this campfire and it is great for making s'mores. Once the fire has been going for about 15 mins it is very hot allowing for a quick roasting time. Let me know if you have any other questions. FYI we do offer a Eucalyptus and Lemon oil version for bug repelling. That one you do not want to use for roasting food. Thanks for giving it a look!"

If you put the on an outside table does something need to be placed under it?

Always make sure it sits in a heat resistant surface. We use a tile or ceramic table. You can also set it on a metal, tile, or ceramic hot plate like would be used for a pot or skillet.

Does this product have a shelf life and if so, how long? Thx.

It has no shelf life. It's a great item for disaster preparedness. You can store them forever and they work even if they got wet.
