Most Authorative and Well Written Dwarf Hamster Book I could find!
My all-time favorite Hamster Book!I've read several hamster books in the past and just wasn't particularly impressed. This book specifically focused on Dwarf Hamsters has been the most helpful and complete.I found the author to be a hands-down expert on the subject of all species of Dwarf Hamsters and the information was extremely helpful as we are rearing and managing our Robo Hamsters.Articulate, well researched, clearly presented information that will ensure your success with hamsters of any species, but particularly, of course, the Dwarfs.Because I already am pretty well informed about hamsters, I was pleased to learn even more but could discern that the information is indeed accurate and helpful.Recommend to anyone!

Great information / Easy to read and thorough
Awesome information!!! Purchase if you own a Dwarf Hamster or are planning on getting one. Many thanks to the author from a Dwarf Hamster owner AND Sammy Hammy. This book would have saved me a lot of money & worries if I had read it before I brought my Dwarf Hamster home. Will be referring to it again & again in the future.

Filled with Information
I've had hamsters since I was a little kid. I'm an older adult now. This book was filled with information ranging on date differences and activity differences between a variety of Dwarfs and between Dwarfs and Syrians, etc. I really learned something new which is saying something because I studied all about hamsters during the course of my lifetime. The book covers an introduction to the dwarf hamster and how they differ from other rodents sold at pet stores. Then, the author presents the history of the Dwarf hamster inclusive of each history for Chinese, Roborovski, Russian, Winter White, and Campbell's Dwarf hamster breeds. The author continues with the physical character differences: vision, hearing, smell, determining gender, personality/behavior. The author further describes common concerns: how many to purchase, how they interact with kids or other pets, allergies, and pros/cons. There is what to expect when owning these types of hamsters and how to tell if they are healthy (even to how the teeth look - talk about detail). There is recommendation to transporting the pet, and transitioning to pet's new home. Are you getting tired yet because there are 5 more pages of table of content. HA! No-joke! The author even talks about lighting and humidity not to mention diet and how to recognize signs of illness coming on and recommended aid to prevention or when to see the vet. There's of course the breeding section for those who want baby hamsters running around. Finally, there are misc. topics including what breeds are susceptible to diabetes, answering frequent questions, and even listing breeders in the US, Canada, and UK plus some added websites to view. My hands are tired from writing all that so you can see it is a boat-load of information. Information is found in the book for about 90 pages: the rest is content table, glossary, breeders list, etc. I'd say that it is for 10 years old and up type of reading (few photos).

Buy this first!
Not having ever owned a hamster, I invested in this before getting a hamster for my daughter. We ended up changing the type of dwarf hamster and cage we were going to get. We also knew what to buy beforehand and had a home ready-to-go, including Fluffy’s own carrier to bring her home in.

Inaccurate Information
I was gifted this book for Christmas from a relative. Even though I have a lot of knowledge on hamster care, I decided to give it a try because I love to read!At this point, I’m not even halfway through the book and I have found multiple pieces of incorrect information. The two most recent are found in the pictures on this review. The author suggested a 20 gallon aquarium. This is not enough space for a hamster!! At bare MINIMUM, a dwarf hamster should have 450 square inches of floor space. The minimum size aquarium that is usable is a 40 gallon breeder aquarium. The biggest piece of inaccurate information I found was regarding a “sand bath”. (I was really excited about this piece, because most people don’t offer their hamsters sand baths) While I’m sure the the writer had good intentions, she advises to fill the “sand bath” with chinchilla dust. This is an absolute no no!! Hamsters are very sensitive and can easily get respiratory infections. Dust is never safe!! You should provide reptile sand without added calcium or children’s play sand. If you use play sand, it has to be baked in the oven to kill any bugs that may be in it.Again, I didn’t even get halfway through the book before I stopped reading it. It was published in 2015, so maybe this was the information available at that time.. but the some of the information in this book is no longer valid. I hope that potential buyers do more research on their pet than just reading this book.
