Simple to use and great value

This item was just perfect for punching holes in vinyl. I only needed circular shapes, but got this set for future projects too. Had fun trying all the different shapes. Box did have a few cracks in one corner, but didn’t detract from the item.

The media could not be loaded.  The little plastic case received contains a myriad of metal shape cutters ranging from about 1/4" to nearly 2" in size, all shapes and sizes. The cutters are very sharp on the cutting end and slice through even thick leather with a few taps from a hammer. This is the type of tool set that, once you own it, you'll find many uses for it.We do a lot of crafting and often use a range of materials... fabric, plastic, silicone, vinyl, leather, leatherette, foam etc. Quite often it might be a perfect circle, a square or rectangle that needs to be cut out of material being used for the craft item. Quite simply, without a range of cutters like these, the task is nigh on impossible.This particular set of cutter shapes costs around £20, and you receive no less than 52 cutters. This averages out at around 38p per cutter. That's great value.I have tried the cutters on a range of materials from soft felt to very thick leather and a clean, precise shape was easy to produce in seconds. The cutters worked well on everything I tried.If you do crafts, or work with leather then this is a great product, very sharp and very easy to use.

This review is for the 52Pcs Shape Style One Hole Hollow Punch Cutter Set for DIY Leather Craft , Black£19.99 at the time of review.The pins holding the box clasp broke when I opened the box which is really poor. No point having a compartmentalised box is the pieces can’t be held safely in the compartments. I drilled through the lid and fastened the clasp on with a paperclip and at least it now holds closed.The lunches are well formed with small spot welds holding the larger ones together. Some of the shapes are stored inside larger shapes of the same size to take up less room. Using an old leather belt, I tried to punch a hole in it with the second smallest circular punch, and I had to really go at it with a 16oz hammer to get it to punch through. The hole was perfect, round with perfect edges, all the way through, so it made an excellent job of it. Since this was the a small punch, I hammered directly onto it instead of using a bit of wood above it, but it didn’t deform or damage the edge. The punch held the cut leather inside it, and this stopped the smallest circular punch fitting inside so the box wouldn’t close, so I had to remove the cut piece from the punch before I could fit all the pieces back together again.I tried some of the larger shapes too and they worked in the same way, so I’m happy to give this punch cutter set 4 stars. I think this set would be handy for someone who wants to cut shapes out of materials, but if you only want to make extra holes in a belt, I would suggest buying a hole puncher with a rotating head instead as it will do the job more easily and with less effort.

This 52 piece set of cutters comes in a basic plastic box to keep them all together. I was pleased to see the various forms so you can find a punch for the main shapes that you require. Its used with a soft mallet or hammer to effect the cutting action, but do not back your material to be cut with a very hard surface. The reason being you will damage the sharp blade edge of the punch. I found polycarbinate or polyethylene or a tough rubber mat was best. Soft wood like pine wasnt good, plywood even worse, ceramic or polymide serfaces very bad. It cuts nylon, soft plastics, leather all perfectly to about 2.5mm in thickness. Softer materials to 5mm. The punched element is easy to release from the inside of the die. After use i very lightly oiled the punches to keep them in perfect condition; i used light plant based oil such as that used on shreaders to prevent marking the leather. After 3 months of daily use these are in perfect condition and still sharp. Exceptional value for money and happy to recommend, Andrew.

You receive the following punches;* 6 circular* 17 square* 19 oval* 10 irregularly shapedThe punches are made from a high density, extremely strong and highly durable steel alloy, these produce nicely formed cuts that are perfectly crisp and sharp edges.They are very easy to use, simply select your punch, place a strong flat board or piece of wood on top and then hammer and your shape is cut, alternatively when I have used them with my clay creations, I only have to press the cutter into the product to get a decent result.The cutters are highly versatile and can be used with a wide variety of materials from leather and fabric, through to icing or clay as in my personal use. As I love to craft fairy items, I have found this set invaluable when designing pieces as I am able to accurately cut out regular and unusual shapes very simply now and my only wish is that I’d found this product earlier.Overall this is an absolutely fantastic product that at £19.99 (price at time of review) is superb value for money and well worth every penny.
