A strong review of anatomy, embryology, cell biology, and histology.
My husband's review:"This book as part of the PreTest Series allows medical students to assess and review their knowledge of anatomy, histology, embryology and cell biology prior to standardized exams such as the USMLE Step I Exam. It has an initial 84-page section titled High-Yield Facts which gives a concise review of embryology, histology and cell biology, tissues such as epithelium, connective tissue, muscle, and nerve, followed by a brief discussion of the histology and function of the organ systems. Following this is a brief review of the anatomy of the body. The remainder of the book (633 pages total) consists of a well-organized set of 500 board-type exam questions on embryology, cell biology and Histology, and anatomy. Following each set of questions, there is a detailed explanation of the correct answer for each question, and in many cases an explanation as well of the wrong answers for the question. The questions are in general more clinically-oriented than some other review books on cell biology and histology. As such, this book provides a strong resource for review and study of anatomy, embryology, and cell biology and histology prior to the student taking the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Exams. The extensive clinical scenarios used for the questions also can provide an introduction to the type of clinically-oriented questions which can also occur on the Cell Biology and Histology Subject Exam. The strong point of this book is the extensive bank of questions and the detailed explanation of the correct and non-correct answers for the questions. The questions and the answers are at a difficulty level similar to the USMLE Step 1 Exam and thus provides a good review for that exam. Recommended for USMLE Step 1 Exam in particular. "

Good to self test
I used this in med school to self test, however, I prefer pretest for clinical years. I liked grays for anatomy, and high yield for all the other preclinical courses.

excellent review book
excellent review book! Used this for usmle and exam prep in medical school and found it to be very helpful and relevant. also nice that it is categorized into many specific sub-categories of questions so for specific modules or areas of focus you can study in a more focused manner

Great resource, challenging
The high yield fact section in the beginning was really helpful, and the answers to the questions have great explanations. The questions, though, were REALLY difficult in comparison to other exam prep books

great for studying
i ordered this book for my M1 histo/cell bio course and it was a great review source. The question style in there was great for my NBME mini-board. It made sure I knew the questions at a more advanced level than the mini-board, so when I walked into the mini-board, it was much easier.

KUMC in your future?
Both authors are KUMC professors. If KUMC is in your future, this will be critical for your exams.Good high-yield section with hundreds of USMLE-style practice questions. Great for any medical student, but very handy for medical students or prospective medical students going to KU.
