Brilliant, easy to clean and worth paying the extra for
I used this to cut perfectly sliced roast beef. I have used a different slicing machine before at my parents. This machine seems much more robust and much easier to clean. Only took a few mins where as my parent's machine seems more fiddly to dismantle and clean. Also with my parents one, you have to have your finger constantly on the button to operate, which means you don't have a hand free to take the meat slices. With this machine there is a safety start button system in place so you cannot accidentally switch on. Once on, the blade continues to rotate until you switch it off. Although I can understand that the design of my parents machine is a safety feature...I actually thought this machine is in a lot of ways much better and equally safe as since the machine is running and you don't have to concentrate on how firmly you are having to hold the on button, it means you are free to concentrate on slicing your meat and as long as you use the sliding meat holder your hands and fingers are safely away from the blade plus you have the other free the other side to catch the slices as they are produced similar to a professional machine I used when I worked in a butchers years ago slicing bacon. The adjustable dial clearly shows the thickness in millimetres so you know exactly the thickness of your slices unlike my parent's one that you have to adjust and try until you have the desired cut. There are cheaper machines on the market however you get what you pay for. The main body housing the blade is stainless steel, unlike my parent's which is plastic making it durable and easy to clean and the new modification on the slide bar allows you to remove the section that slides the meat across the blade of for easy cleaning where as the previous version didn't so you had to clean around the slide bar. I'm very impressed and pleased with it's performance and is definately worth paying the extra for.I would point out that when in use these machines do create an amount of meat fragments which collect on the worktop under the machine as with cutting wood your get sawdust, these are easily wiped up after removing the machine from the worktop. NOTE: if you're a cat or dog owner these tiny tasty meaty bits are a welcome treat on top of their regular pet food!

Great Slicer
After returning another brand that I deemed the on/off switch to be dangerous (you had to hold it down - hard) I decided on the Ostba. What a super machine it is. Very easy to operate, has a decent size blade and is very easy to clean. Simply guide the meat or loaf through, don't push it hard, just let the slicer do the work. This machine takes up no more space than the foldable one I returned did. I can thoroughly recommend the Ostba. Who needs to buy bland tasting, shop bought bread when you can make better yourself AND slice it to the thickness you want? Same goes for meat. Going to buy a ham to cook and slice. Excellent product. Very happy with it.

Almost perfect
Really do enjoy using this slicer. I use it for meat cheese and bread. Works almost perfectly. The blade is nice and sharpe it’s lightweight for moving around. Is cuts clean and fast so no messy cuts. Simple to build and dismantle for cleaning. The only problem is that any large joints can cause it to cut thicker than your selected size. Just bear that in mind when cutting. Other than that it’s great

A Heavyweight Kitchen Ally
As someone who works with cured meats, artisanal loaves, and delicate cheeses on a near-daily basis—whether prepping for large boards or refining portions for sous vide—I can confidently say the OSTBA SL-518 Electric Food Slicer is one of those machines that surprises you with its capability at this price point. It’s not commercial-grade heavy-duty, but in the realm of home and light-professional slicing, it punches far above its weight. The 19cm stainless steel serrated blade offers a remarkably consistent cut. Whether you’re going for near-transparent Parma ham or chunkier slices of homemade rye bread, the 0–15mm adjustable dial gives you fine-tuned control. It handles cold cooked meats, roast beef, block cheese, dry sausage, crusty bread, and even soft tomatoes with admirable ease. I’ve sliced through firm cheddar, wobbly camembert, and even tried thick Indian mutton for kebab prep—each with results I’d expect from more expensive models. The motor’s 150W output doesn’t sound like much, but it’s efficient and doesn’t bog down or overheat with extended use. What I appreciate most is the combination of power and safety. The dual-button start (requiring both the power button and child lock to be pressed) is an excellent feature—especially if you're like me and have inquisitive children wandering into the kitchen mid-prep. The slicer won’t turn on unless both are held down, which adds peace of mind. That said, the buttons themselves are a little stiff at first. It takes some getting used to, especially when you're wearing gloves. The removable blade, food carriage, and slide-rod extension are well-designed for cleaning—critical if you're switching between meat, cheese, and vegetables frequently. I found that a quick rinse and a bit of food-safe degreaser post-session keeps it looking and functioning like new. The unit is dishwasher safe, though I prefer to hand wash mine to extend longevity. When it comes to performance and versatility, the OSTBA SL-518 proves itself as a true multi-tasker. I tested it across a wide range of foods and slicing tasks, and it handled every one with precision and control. I began with paper-thin beef slices for hotpot—something that normally takes ages with a knife—and the slicer produced near-transparent cuts effortlessly. For schnitzel prep, I used it to slice chilled chicken breast into even fillets, ensuring consistent thickness and perfect pan coverage. I moved on to finer deli work, running Parma ham and pancetta through it for antipasti platters, followed by whole cured chorizo and kabanos sticks, both of which sliced cleanly with no crumbling.Cheeses were next, with cheddar, gouda, and even soft brie going through beautifully for sandwiches. I then tried various breads—rye, ciabatta, and brioche, both fresh and day-old—and was pleased with the clean, uniform slices. It was just as effective with vegetables and fruit. I cut sweet potato slices for dehydrating, and created beautiful eggplant and courgette ribbons for grilling. Pears and apples were thinly sliced for desserts and dried fruit, with the slicer managing their softer texture surprisingly well. For heartier deli-style meals, I prepped thick-cut pastrami for Reuben sandwiches and tofu slices for Asian stir-fries. Thick halloumi slabs came out perfect for pan-frying, and chilled salmon cut cleanly for sashimi. Pork loin slices for ramen bowls were effortless, and lamb leg rounds were spot-on for grilling. Roast turkey breast was handled with ease for weekday lunches, and I cut thick baguette slices for garlic bread in seconds. Onion rings sliced consistently for deep frying, while fennel and celery were finely ribboned for fresh slaws. As a finishing touch, I even shaved a block of chocolate to use in baking—and again, the machine handled it with precision. All told, these 20 varied use cases prove that this slicer isn’t just for meat—it’s a precision tool for anyone who loves to prep ingredients across cuisines, textures, and cooking methods. In every one of those, it performed consistently—so long as the ingredient was sufficiently firm or chilled. That’s the golden rule: chill your product before slicing, especially soft items like poultry or cheese.Pros:– Very consistent cut quality with good power-to-performance ratio– Excellent value for its class– Compact footprint with sturdy build– Easy disassembly for proper cleaning– Versatile slicing range from paper-thin to thick cuts– Child-lock adds safety, especially around kids– Quiet operation for a motor of its strengthCons:– Power and lock buttons are stiff and may fatigue fingers– Not suitable for commercial all-day use (motor needs rest between long batches)– Serrated blade is less ideal for super-clean cuts on raw meat (you may want a smooth blade separately)– Suction feet hold well on smooth surfaces, but not as reliable on textured countertops– Slightly heavy for smaller kitchens (nearly 4kg)The OSTBA SL-518 is ideal for serious home cooks, prep-focused households, small catering gigs, and batch cooking fans. It offers a great middle ground between domestic simplicity and near-professional functionality.Whether you’re crafting a charcuterie board for 10 or meal-prepping a week's worth of sandwiches, this machine handles the job cleanly, safely, and consistently. If you respect its limits, maintain it properly, and understand its strengths (and occasional quirks), it’ll serve as one of your most practical, time-saving tools in the kitchen. Highly recommended—with a sharp knife on standby for the few things it shouldn’t slice.

Great slicer
Perfect for my needs. Slices meat thin which is how we prefer it. Also slices thick if you prefer. Very easy to use & stores away neatly in kitchen cupboard.
