Totally fresh way to learn PMP – Reads like a good story – Totally helped me

This book saved me. I passed!!!I have to be honest; I used another popular book (I won’t mention it here) when I studied the 1st time. Bottom line on the other book, I felt like I knew things, but on the exam I definitely wasn’t prepared.THIS BOOK IS WAYYYYYY better than the other one. There are four things that really really helped me and I think they will probably help a lot of people too.1. It is flows like a real story! No idea why no one did this before. The author reorganized everything so it is really logical. Basically it steps you through process by process like a real project. The impact of this might not seem big but for me it was HUGE. Things started to make sense. Also there is an ACTUAL story in the book too. Like a real story of an actual (well not actual – fictional I guess) project manager leading a project using PMP Processes. Its cool.2. If focuses on what really matters: I love how the book distills down the best points from every process and called out how every process impacts the other.3. It is written in a really positive and fun voice: I was pretty discouraged before I got this book, I didn’t want to fail the test twice. This book really helped build my confidence. It has a super positive message, really clear writing, and I felt like it was totally focused on building my skills.4. Simulator was a life saver: the people who put this book out have a simulator too. It’s really good. The book gives you a deal on getting access to it. I said, what the heck lets try it and I’m glad I did. It followed the book’s advice and took lots of little micro exams while I studied. That really helped me. I totally recommend that studying approach.I am really lucky that my friend recommended this book to me. I cannot recommend it enough.

Redefining how to prepare for the PMP Exam (Only book you'll need)

I started my PMP journey like so many others. Picking up highly recommended books, attempting to drudge through the PMBOK, etc. It didn't last long. I kept trying to find ways to make the antiquated material useful. It never happened. I thought "why doesn't any of the material go through the process flow like a real life project?". This would make the learning more realistic and less academic. Then I found my way to Scott's book. This is EXACTLY what I wanted. It's organized by Process Group, and not Knowledge area, and follows the processes like a real project would. Awesome! On top of that, the Case Studies with John are great. Being able to apply what you learn to a "real-world" scenario helps you connect all of the dots. The way the book is organized helps you actually understand the material, not just memorize. It omits all the unnecessary fluff that other books have, and gives you the meat of the material. And it reads a hell of a lot better than any other PMP prep books. If you are prepping for the PMP, this is the only book you'll need. Ditch the PMBOK, and get this book.

Fantastic Material and most helpful for PMP!

I have purchased the audio book and Scott's explanation of concepts is very practical, logical and makes it easier to learn PMP concepts. Having an audio version is amazing for people who have commute to work like me. This helps to revise any concepts you might have read earlier or provide a great introduction before you completely learn a conceptEdit:I first purchased the audio book and then really liked the content and purchased the hardcover book too. PMBOK material is detailed and is a great guide, however, it can be dry and jump between many topics. Scott's material was laid out like how you would execute a project and the case studies are the BEST! Case studies help to really understand how all of the Tools and Techniques can be applied and why each process needs to be performed in a real project world. It is a fantastic book to follow and gain confidence that you understood the overall intent of the processes and Knowledge areas. I passed the PMP in first try. I have 7 years of experience in Project management and this book helped me comprehend the PMI PM flow and terminology to successfully pass PMP

Good, not great. Has flaws.

Great book. Very helpful but boom has its flaws. Words spelled wrong (documents on late 193), pages seemingly in the wrong order (answer with three point estimating on page 126 whereas the question and practice question is on page 127. I’d like to practice the question before being shown the answer).

Helped me pass the PMP above target the first time

I absolutely and unequivocally recommend PM Masters' book and simulator. The two go hand-in-hand. He also has a video course with quizzes and group coaching sessions, both of which proved invaluable in my passing the exam. Like other reviewers, I have tried multiple times to get through the PMBOK and have many barely read PM books on my shelves. Too much information to distill and memorize. Plus, the exam focuses on real-life situations more than straight memorization. Scott's approach is holistic and helps you to see how the different processes relate across knowledge areas as they do in real life.I scraped by with 81% on PM Master's simulator before I took the exam and passed with three above targets and two meet targets. His EVM template made recalling the formulas so much easier during the exam. He also encourages you to focus on what you DON'T know, rather than making a useless brain dump of memorized information. If you are looking for a comprehensive explanation of the PMBOK, this book is not it. If you are looking to the pass the PMP exam, get this book and the simulator, at a minimum.

Leaves a lot to be desired.

The Good: Good on covering Agile methods and other alternates. The over all presentation is functional. The Bad: There are quite a few misspellings. The Ugly: What was suppose to the high value (memorizing the earned values), was overly complicated. Its easier to just learn the EVM than to try to remember the elongated confusing methodology proposed. Really, just learn the Earn Value Methods, its easier than the conundrum the book suggests.

Definitely a Book to ready for PMP

It's an innovative way to teach and a wonderful case studies will help remembering as thou it's a novel that we are reading linking every process.
