When things are that perfect, something is wrong.” - The Wives. SYNOPSIS: “Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. She agreed to this unusual arrangement because she’s so crazy about him. But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different- and horrifying- story about the man she married. What follows is one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers you’ll ever read.”- The Wives. REVIEW: I am SO glad this book came out, and that I was able to finish reading it right before the end of the year. Because in all honestly, this was the craziest thriller, with possibly the most twists, that I have read all year. Oh my god, my head is still swimming and trying to catch up. I have loved all the books I have read by Tarryn Fisher and this one is no exception. I honestly think she is becoming a Queen of the dark thriller genre. The plot in this book is so carefully and meticulously thought-out in every way. It is also quite complicated as well, and at this point (end of the book) I feel like all the questions have been answered to a satisfactory point. There is not a lot I can say about the plot, (I don’t want to give anything away) besides things are not what they seem, and even when you think you have a good idea of what is going on, you are probably still wrong. This is thanks to the many twists in the book and involvement of all the characters and their different dynamics. Speaking of characters, they are all amazing. All complicated, well thought-out, and equal combinations of dark and twisty. I appreciate how Tarryn always has diverse personalities within her characters and no one is really “squeaky clean”. Every character is just so complex, and their relationships with each other very interesting and unique. Further, I enjoyed reading from Thursday’s perspective in this story, and throughout the book shared many of the same feelings and bouts of confusion that she was experiencing which added to the mystery of it all. Overall, this book was a total mind-f*ck. I cannot wait to go back to the beginning and read it again with all the knowledge that I have now, and catch things that I didn’t notice in the first read through. I’m so so so happy that this is OFFICIALLY my final read of 2019! I couldn’t have ended it on a better note. With that, I am looking forward to 2020 and the books that it will bring (Hopefully more of Tarryn’s 😉) Happy New Year! Review: good read - Slow build but ended up being a good read ! Lots of guessing on who was the actual crazy one! Maybe unpopular but the ex wife got what she deserved lol

Spoiler Alert
"In an attempt to understand my role, I’d asked him what he got from each of us, how our roles were different. He’d told me to think of the sun. “The sun provides light, warmth and energy.” “So you’re...what...earth?” I’d quipped back. “Seems like we’re the ones who revolve around you, not the other way around.” He’d tensed up at that, even as he moved his mouth into a smile." If you are new to Tarryn Fisher's books then this should be a five star book for you. She is a very complex writer, digging deep into the psyche for all of her characters. I can't deny the premise of this book pulls you in and keeps you from the first page on. I have no doubt this will be one of Fisher's most quoted and celebrated books. The story starts with Thursday getting ready for dinner with her husband Seth. She is undeniably the perfect wife. "Everything is just right, the way he likes it, and thus, the way I like it. It’s not that I don’t have a personality; it’s just that everything I am is reserved for him. As it should be." Don't worry though, this is not a Stepford Wives, without personality woman. Thursday will wear many faces throughout the story to the point that you wonder if you can trust her. This is a story of cat and mouse, Thursday trying to pursue Seth's other wives while danger lurks in the secrets she is starting to uncover. Basically this story is unputdownable and is one of Fisher's best works. So, why the 3 stars you ask? Stop reading if you don't want any spoilers. I absolutely LOVED this story... until the end. I feel like Fisher took the cheap way out by making Thursday into this delusional, schizophrenic person. To me, the story automatically lost its complexity as soon as Thursday took the downfall for all the chaos. What's worse is that although it is a completely different book in terms of premise, this was almost a cookie cutter ending of her other book Marrow. I know these are completely opposite stories. However, I can't help but to compare the unreliable narrator, the same ending of the crazy person being crazy but at complete terms with themselves. I will read anything Fisher puts out. She is an awesome writer who really digs into her characters to make them whole. I just feel like she missed the mark with the ending.

What can I say about The Wives ? Other than, it is I-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E! It’s genuinely one of the best books that I have ever read! The Wives, follows the protagonist Thursday as she navigates life as the wife of a polygamist. There are three wives in total & Thursday sees Seth ( her Hubbie ) every Thursday & his other wives get Monday & Tuesday. Tuesday is the original wife & Monday is the newest wife, all of them are aware of each other & have agreed to never try to get information about each other & instead live life as normal. Seemingly, Thursday is accepting of her lot until one day she discovers a hospital receipt in her husbands pocket. Closer inspection of the receipt shows that Monday is actually called Hannah & she is pregnant. Armed with the receipt & some basic computer skills Thursday starts to investigate her fellow wife. As she continues to look for info on Hannah, she starts to unravel & become obsessed with finding out as much as she can about her husbands other wives. First off, Thursday is a very complex, but very endearing protagonist who you really empathise with & want to succeed, especially when the reader discovers that Thursday is psychologically traumatised from an incident earlier in her marriage to Seth. Secondly, as the story progresses & layer after layer of secrets & lies are revealed, the story becomes increasingly more unsettling, dark & twisted. As the plot gets more & more twisty, all your initial preconceptions start to crumble. I loved the pacey, relentless and all consuming plot points, which is why I binge read it at every opportunity! Of course I now have a major book-hangover but it’s worth it! I have nothing negative at all to say about this book, which is an endorsement of how clever & compelling this book is. I would definitely read more from this author & highly recommend reading this book, because for once the hype is real!! If you enjoy a domestic thriller guys, then you have to read this novel ASAP because it’s genius ! This was an easy 5* star rating for me ! ! I would give it more if I could !

“Fighting was the sandpaper that smoothed out the first years of a relationship. Sure, there was still plenty of lifelong grit after that, but the fighting stripped everything down, let the other person know what was important to you.” Do you like a crazy ride of a thriller that twists and turns and makes you question everything you just read? Unreliable narrators that may be lying, or crazy, or both? A premise that is so far removed from your own life experience that you read open-mouthed, turning the pages just to find out how this could possibly all work out? If you said yes to one or more of these questions, then put this book on your wishlist right now! THE WIVES was one of the craziest page-turners I have read in a while, and I loved it. My notes around the 50% and 75% mark read something like:” I am so confused. I have no idea what is going on here. This is insane!” Normally have lots of theories, but this book totally stumped me. At one stage, daring to speculate, I shook my head with a wry laugh: “No, that would be just too crazy!” Insert narrator’s voice here: “But she was wrong. Because it was even crazier. A kind of crazy she could never have imagined.” Yes, I was way off, and the conclusion took me totally by surprise. You know how hard it is to review the premise of a mystery that relies on surprise elements to provide a thrilling read, so I will just give you the bare bones. The book is written from the POV of main protagonist Thursday, a young woman in her late twenties, who shares her husband with two other wives. And if that’s not strange enough, she has never met any of her sister wives, nor does she know their names (she calls them Monday and Tuesday for the days of the week her husband Seth spends with them). As you shake your head in disbelief, I can hear you thinking: this can’t possibly end well. And of course it doesn’t. Would you be content to live in blissful ignorance whilst your husband, who you’re madly in love with, spends a majority of time with other women? Exactly! Thursday is curious, and does some snooping, and finds out a few things about hubby that worry her. From then on follows a crazy, twisted story of a woman’s quest to get answers. THE WIVES was one of those page-turners I could not put down. The more weird and wonderful things Thursday uncovered, the crazier the story got, the more I needed to know how it would all tie together. The only reason this was not a five star read for me was the ending, which was a bit too bizarre even for me, and I so like a twisted roller-coaster-ride of a thriller. Perhaps it was just that I had hoped for a different outcome. Never mind. One thing that I learned was: polygamy is not for me. Going on my murderous thoughts towards Seth very early into the novel, I would probably end up in jail rather than gaining favourite wife status. Anyway, enough said: if you like crazy, twisted and original stories then I urge you to give this one a go. I found it highly entertaining, evidenced by my all-night read-a-thon that gave me the biggest book hangover the next morning. Buckle up, delve in and enjoy the ride!

Le livre en lui même et l’intrigue sont bien. En revanche le livre était taché sur de nombreuses pages

Wow. Just Wow!!!!!! I have never read anything so well written, addictive and excellent in a thriller. The main character is certifiable yet she seems so normal . I had a feeling that she may have been "crazy" yet she seemed so convincing and normal. Which leads me to thinki----how sane are any of us? How many of us have a false reality? Is the first wife crazy or is the heroine crazy? Who is crazy and who isn't among us? Go ahead and get this one; you won't be disappointed.

I love psychological thrillers, and I liked this one a lot when I started reading it. Then it became predictable, and I found the ending to be too convoluted. Sometimes, less is more.
