The Navarre Bible: The Psalms and The Song of Solomon (The Navarre Bible: Old Testament)

The Navarre College's new translation of sacred scripture, in this case the Psalms and Song of Solomon is a fantastic edition that leaves one searching for words of recommendation. Written in a clean, cogent style, the book divides itself by page into the original scripture passages with accompanying biblical commentary, from prominent Catholic saints (noteably Josemaria Escrivá).This particular edition is in impressive hardcover format, feels sturdy and is well constructed.A word of note to those who have been collecting the other Navarre Bibles: this particular edition does not include the original Latin Vulgate text, unlike some of the New Testament editions. It's a little disappointing, but understandable, for if the edition did include the Latin it would be a massive tome, indeed! Thus, to maintain affordable costs and size of the book it is not present.A must for the serious Bible scholar, student of "Lectio Divina", or the casual Bible student. Collect them all!

Great! I got this for a Bible Study of the Song of Songs and some day later I will also delve into the riches of the Navarre Bible's notes on the Psalms as well. This is a uniquely valuable and reliable series and did not disappoint me. It is full of the riches of the Catholic Tradition.

This year's trek through the scriptures began with sequential readings from Psalms and I've just finished the psalter. In comparison with the volumes on the Pentateuch, Joshua through 2 Kings and the Wisdom books, I'm pleased with the very uniform editing of what has no doubt been a group project. The presentation is very even throughout and will provide any reader with both historical and spiritual/theological commentary on the relevant documents based on the entire span of Western Christian reflection on the scriptures.

Get all the volumes of Navarre Bible--and as soon as you can. I did not expect so much commentary on the Psalms. This shows more my lack of knowledge and understanding of religion and the world in the ancient times. They could have been written today. And, these volumes have sparked an interest in understanding the culture of early Bible history. Get them all.

Perfect book for studying the books of the bible. This series is the best means for learning about the author and the meaning of the scriptures.

The only book on psalms I would recommend if you want to understand the psalms themselves.

I love this this commentary! Its my first Navarre Bible I've owned and its wonderful! The commentary on Holy Writ is orthodox, and faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Church. The notes work great for Lectio Divina too. I would recommend this to any Catholic or non-Catholic looking for an authentic interpretation on Sacred Scripture.

Part of the Navarre Bible Commentary Set. Very easy to read and understand. Recommended for anyone who is engaged in personal Bible study without a university background in Theology.

This is a wonderful book, and I was blessed to be able to find it throught Amazon. Highly reccomended. I just hope the there will be other titles on the Navarre Bible available soon.
