Excellent Hair Clay!
Excellent product! I use this product to style my thick, straight hair and it works very well. The matte finish is very nice. It leaves my hair looking textured and not slicked down or greasy like other products I've tried. Product is thick, but easy to apply and a tin of this stuff lasts me for months. The scent is a very light and clean vanilla. A change from the previous formula that contained a sandlewood fragrance (which I loved), but the new version is also nice and subtle. Hold is excellent and doesn't leave your hair stiff, making restyling throughout the day abreeze. You can simply run your fingers through your hair and go. It honestly works better as the day goes on. I highly reccommend this product to anyone and it is a great value at the selling price.

Perfect
I’ve been using this for 8 years, almost every day, a jar lasts for half a year, it’s easy to change the style during the day, just wet your hands and style your hair again without re-applying, there are no side effects, it washes off easily in the evening, the best I’ve tried

True Medium hold, good smell, amazing volume, & easy to use.
This clay works pretty well with my medium length hair (4-5 inches on top). I have super thick straight hair, so I use 3-4 scoops in my hair so that I can style my hair as I wish. My best piece of advise would be to apply this product & style as desired then go eat breakfast or do some morning routine that doesn't involve you bending over bc then your hair will look ridiculous. I recommend you do this bc this clay settles in your hair like most clays, but it doesn't harden at all. For me this clay was not a strong hold, it was simply a medium holding clay. If you don't swing your head around or run your hands through it will stay as you styled it. But slight wind will mess it up, but this clay is so pliable that you can easily get it back to it's original position with your hands. Overall I really liked this clay, but it only worked for me when i blow dried my hair & it gave me amazing volume.

Better than the competition!
After about twenty years of short hair I decided to go long again. So I looked around to find something to tame my otherwise unruly hair. Beauticians and barbers all recommended one of the American modern brands but it had too strong of both shine and smell. So I went with Dapper Dan, a well tried formulation from the UK. Since I'd not used pomade in decades I got both the matt (i.e. low shine) versions, clay in the red can and paste in the dark gold can. Between the two I like the paste better when my hair was too short to tie back but long enough to be unruly. Once it grew to a respectable length, either for a pony tail or a bun the clay's advantages were obvious so now that it is time to re-order I'm going entirely with the clay. The clay version is harder to get out of the can, so you end up wetting your fingers and making several small additions. The paste is easier to get out of the can and easier to get too much. Too much of the paste is kind of waxy and has to be combed out with more water to spread out. The clay also thickens the look of the hair and too much is, well, too much, too. Both will hold a long time, and will help the hair come back together during the day if it is combed with a little water.I've changed my rating on the clay from four stars to five stars since it turns out that it wears as well or better after multiple re-combings. When using the paste I do sometimes get a bit too much to easily spread out with combing.

Seems like some quality control issues.
I was in the market and in need of some decent hair products, and thought I would give "Dapper Dan Matte Hair Clay" a try, as I live two weeks from everywhere! My first order I was delighted by the red tin (with sticker) and was even more amazed at the wonderful smell once I opened the tin. The product was pretty soft and was very easy to apply. I didn't think much about the hold at first but the product starts to hold incredibly strong after a few passes with my comb through my wavy thick damp hair and it washes out easy. What can I say, it was great and once the tin started getting low I was excited for my next purchase! However...The second tin that I purchased wasn't like the first tin at all. When I opened the tin, I wasn't greeted by the amazing smell I sought. I also noted that the product had pulled away from the sides. The color also seemed off. Figuring that it had been on my porch in the cold, I decided that perhaps it needed to come to room temp, and then I would check. No dice, and furthermore the smell wasn't pleasant...it smelled kind of like make-up (weird chemical smell). The clay itself was hard to manipulate and I would have to work it to get it soften. The hold was still good though and using a bit of beard oil, I made it work.

Purchased as a joke, now I really am a Dapper Dan Man
Like most people, I purchased this just so I could make O Brother Where Art Thou jokes. I found that it actually is a really great hair product for the price though! The biggest competitors at this price point are Old Spice, Axe, etc. I've used most of those but am always looking for something new, and having never used a clay product, this caught my eye. As the name implies, it has a stronger hold than the pastes/creams that I'm used to using. However, it does not leave my hair feeling stiff. I've found that I can turn the front of my hair up and it will stay up all day with this product, but I can still run my hand through it without feeling sticky.Everyone styles their hair differently, but I personally style mine with my hands and a comb. For best results I put this in after towel-drying my hair out of the shower. About an hour or two after I've applied it I'll run my fingers through my hair to make it look more natural by removing comb lines. I've found that if I do that any sooner then my hair will still be a little damp, but that can be sped up if you use a blow drier.

Great hold
This Dapper Dan product has the best hold of all their products. The smaller container is perfect for travel/gym etc.

Dapper Dan
Love the hold on this use it daily and it lasts long and with a little bit of water you could remould or sculpt as you want. Probably better for thin hair but works well for thick hair as well! Only downside I wish it came in a bigger size but a little goes a long way!
