Dried Basil
I bought this item because I use Basil, for cooking, on a regular basis. I got tired of looking for this item at the grocery store(s) in a quantity that was reasonably priced. A pound is a lot to use, but it comes in a resealable pouch / bag to keep it fresh and with an expiration date (for the item I received) of September 2026, I’m not worried about it going bad on me. If this is your situation, then, this item is for you.

This appears to be Thai basil and not Italian basil.
Have been looking for Thai basil for a while and got real lucky on this mislabeled package. It smells like anise or licorice and will work well with Thai dishes that I make. Not so sure it would be good in Italian dishes, but definitely willing to take the chance. This is the deal of a lifetime as spices are very expensive and Thai basil isn't really found in the grocery store nor any Asian market I have been to.Can't believe one of the reviews complained that the packages received were short by a part of an ounce. On the other hand, maybe that person's scale is off by 5%. We'll never know for sure and for what it is worth, who cares? I'd be more concerned with another review that found braided string in a bag. Sifted through the entire bag I received and didn't find anything like that nor any rusty bolts or syringes. Lucky me.

Ok, hear me out. I don't think it's Ocimum basilicum but.....
This has a distinct aroma of anise which is not Ocimum basilicum. I think this could be Ocimum basilicum var. thyrsiflora (Thai basil), or Ocimum basilicum 'Licorice' (licorice basil), or Ocimum basilicum 'Anise' (Anise basil) BUT that can work in Italian cooking too because Anise/licorice is an Italian flavor too. For the money, this was worth it. It's nice to have more than one variety of dried basil! It will work very well in Italian foods and maybe even teas?
