Dead Space DownFall prelude to Dead Space 1
Did you know this is an anime prelude to Dead Space 1! It tells a story what happened to the colony on Aegis 7, how the Ishimura got affected by the marker, and how the ship got infected with necromorphs. Overall, it’s a fun movie, short but good, if you love Dead Space you’ll love this

In space no one can hear you scream.
A animated sci-fi action horror movie with a style similar to anime, which leaves me to wonder why don't, they make more animated video game movies instead of live action ones. Let's face some of the source material to games are unadaptable and would cost a lot to make. So why not just go the anime or animated route, where the areas are limitless. I have never played a dead space game before, but I can tell it's a very scary game, and the movie is set before the first installment of the series. And there is no shortage of action, gore, mayhem, and a lot of good frights.

Decent bridge between the DLC animated comics and the game.
For those of you who aren't aware, there's significant story arcs precluding the Dead Space game. They come in the form of animated comics released an "issue" at a time on both XBL and PSN. These are free downloads and even if you don't purchase Downfall, I strongly recommend downloading the comic series.Downfall takes place in the space between the animated comics and the game. It's a decent story about how a seemingly routine "planet crack" goes awry when a "marker" is found on the planet being excavated. There's a nice story here but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to watch to fully enjoy the game. I feel that although the animation was well done and the gore was on par with the game, the story just wasn't creepy or deep enough to really make it a hit.The creepiness in the animated comics was largely lost in the feature film. Don't get me wrong, it's no Disney movie, I just don't think it was quite on par with its predecessor. Unfortunately, it seemed like one of the major climax/action sequences exists only in the deleted scenes and even then it only exists as an animatic (meaning a series of uncolored rough sketches displayed in succession with audio tracks overlayed, for those unfamiliar with the term.)Finally I wasn't really impressed with the quality of the blu-ray format. There's some extras in the BluRay live section that I imagine don't exist in DVD form, but I still don't think that the Blu-Ray version is worth the extra $5. The promised cheat codes exist as easter eggs within the movie. Not a big deal for me, but just wanted to give a heads up to those who expect a card with codes listed on it when they open their case.Honestly, it's not a bad movie by any means. I just think they could've pushed the creepiness a little more as well as putting higher highs and lower lows in the story arc. If you're really psyched about the franchise it's worth getting (again, I'd grab the DVD version and save your five dollars.) If you're on the fence, you may want to rent or borrow it first. If you have no intention of playing the game and are just looking for a good horror anime, I would look elsewhere.

For Fans of the Series
Chances are by this point if you're considering purchasing this, its either because you are a fan of the series or you're buying as a gift for someone who is. In either situation, you won't be disappointed if you enjoyed Dead Space 1 as it explains how the infection began. Also, the VA's all seem pretty invested in their dialog and overall I'd recommend it.

3.5/5 - Faithful to the game series but lacking in substance beyond that.
Having played the original game, Dead Space, it is neat to see the first game get a prequel of sorts. The story is fairly generic in terms of a sci-fi "space crew gone mad" like Event Horizon. The main character is not likable, painfully clinging to the trope of a tough girl that is always angry. If you've played the first entry in the series, you'll see the ending coming a mile away because it has to end only one way. Most of the quality animation went to, while an omnipresent factor in the game series, the excessive gore. The best thing I can say about this is it is very faithful to the game series, from each monster/alien to the layout of the ship that serves as the setting that both this movie and the first game take place on. If you are a fan of the series of games, you may enjoy it enough for it to be worth your time. If you are not a fan, it may not be as accessible and possibly confusing. With all this in mind, it can be tough to make such a direct prequel. The movie seems like more sauce for fans rather than a blockbuster to bring in new people. If that's all you are looking for, then you probably came to the right place.

Still a great film, glad to own it properly.
Film arrived in solid condition (this is maybe a month or so later) but it plays great and the film itself is great as is. If you're a fan of the games this is a solid prequel film set before the first game (and still better than Aftermath honestly.

short but pretty good
so if your someone who has played all the dead space games then you will notice a few scenes and moments right from the first game which is pretty cool and the animation is not that bad for being i think a movie from 2008

Good purchase!
Nice hard copy of a decent film to watch. Especially good after the streaming services removed it, so I can watch it again at my leisure.

Gut gemachte Origin Story
