Mentions that people also die and getting a new dog
This is a lovely book, well written and illustrated about the Rainbow Bridge, where pets go to wait until they are reunited with their humans and go to heaven. It has no mention of heaven or religion, which will suit many families. However, be aware that the book does say that people also die and shows two old people being reunited with their pets, so not one to read to children who don't yet know that everyone will die, including them. It also ends with the boy getting another dog, which you might not want to introduce if you don't intend to get another.

Could not explain to our 4yo where his dog was
And this book has provided us with a beautiful story, and great answer, and yet no lie ! We did NOT want to lie to the children about death and yet explaining what death is to a 2 and a 4 yo is just impossible. This book provides an answer, which also introduces the idea that humans age and die... It did get them worried at first but now they understand, and we could not have done it without this brilliant little story. It so happens that our 4yo has a little teddy that looks like our dachshund, so we told him that tesdy can visit the rainbow bridge just like Buster in the story, so he can let Oz know what's happening in his life via the teddy... He did for a few weeks, it's now completely unnecessary for him.

I bought this little book after my border collie died ...
I bought this little book after my border collie died because my friends five year old daughter was devasted by his death. My friend told me that reading through this book with her daughter had really helped and she is now going to lend it to a friend to read to her daughter because they lost their dog recently too.

Brilliant story for children following the loss of a pet
This is a beautifully written story for children who have just experienced the loss of a pet. Our daughter was 5 when our cat was hit by a car & passed away. This story helped us massively. Would definitely recommend it.
