After finally getting the chance to buy myself a little something, I decided on a good letter opener. I sifted through each page of product, waiting for the moment that tells me I've found the perfect one. That moment came when I spied this beautiful letter opener. It's sleek, simple and makes short work of slicing though business envelopes and even some heavier ones. Particularly attractive is the dancheong design inlaid into the handle; intricate geometric or floral designs in a riot of colors, reminiscent of the beautiful designs found on Korean temples and palaces. Dancheong is an unmistakeable Korean art form and one that I remember from my childhood when I lived in Seoul. When I walked the grounds of Kyong Bok Palace or the East Nine Tombs, or rode past the Great South Gate as a young girl, I would gaze at the wonderful colors woven together to create such beautiful designs that are found nowhere else. I have never forgotten the beautiful painted buildings. When I spied this letter opener, I knew I would be able to gaze upon the colors and designs once more. Excellent craftsmanship on this letter opener; solid and fast as quicksilver. The dancheong design is icing on the cake for me!

The stock image does not do the beauty of this letter opener justice.Both sides have a mother of pearl design, (mine has flowers and butterflies), and there is a butterfly etched below the inlay on each side and a butterfly adorning the top of the handle.This isn't a delicate little opener that will bend or wear-out, it is sturdy and will last. It measures 6 3/4" long, the tapered handle is 3/4" wide at the top and 1/4" thick, the blade has a beveled edge which measures 3/16" wide and 2/16" thick.Though I purchased this for myself, it came in a small box suitable for gift-giving.In other reviews I've noticed people stating they have trouble opening thin envelopes due to the thickness of the blade portion of the opener. I have not had any issue with this, even on envelopes sealed almost to the very edge.Please note: this is not pointed for cutting tape on box tops, nor are the blade edges sharp, so this will not open plastic mailers, thread seamed envelopes or very thick manila envelopes.

Was a gift for my mom. She is happy with it. She gave me her old mail opener and I used it for awhile but went back to just ripping my mail open after a week or so.

After the cheap letter opener that I had used for many years went missing, I decided to replace it with something much nicer. The local office supply stores do not stock what I was looking for, and this one being offered on Amazon caught my eye. I was surprised to learn that it was being shipped all the way from Seoul, South Korea, but it arrived quickly none-the-less. The shipping package was a plastic bubblewrap envelope, and the letter opener comes in a very attractive and tasteful gift box. The letter opener itself is of the highest quality, solid, heavy and made to last. The handle is a beautiful work of art. I took one star off because the handle is quite short and doesn't give one much to hold onto. But then again it is only intended for opening mail, not carving the Thanksgiving turkey. This letter opener would make an ideal gift for any occasion, as anyone would enjoy owning this.

I still like to give and receive snail mail and this letter opener is perfect to open envelopes. It comes in lovely box for gifting and is very pretty. It has a nice weight to it too, I would buy again.

I have been using the cheap plastic envelope openers with the razor blades for years now and decided to splurge on a nice opener I will have for years to come. I am glad I made the investment because I think it works much better than the plastic jobbers. I only wish I had a stand or something to display it on so I just keep it in one of my pen holders when Im not using it so I can see how pretty it is. I am also glad I was able to order it from amazon and not have to wait for it to arrive from overseas.

Although the handles is very pretty on one side, the other side of the handle was disappointing. For the price, I also expected this to work better when opening mail. It seems like edge is too dull. I have considered returning but not sure it's worth my time..
