Awesome
This is an amazing litter box. I love the automatic scooper, and I love that it is very much like a regular litter box, so transition over to this one was very easy. I did not want the litter box that turned around, simply because I did not want that large bulky thing in my house. The trays are easy to change. I would suggest getting a reuseable tray and refill with the same litter. Very easy to clean and keeps the smell down. It's a bit pricey, but look for a sale and you will not regret it. The change for me was totally worth the added up front expense.

A Healthy Choice for Cat litterbox Easy to be clean and size box space large not narrow
As I mentioned, the machine sometimes misses things. Sometimes chunks of stuff will end up stuck just out of reach of the rake, right on the very edges of the box. So you need to give it a helping hand there, and you also need to go in to the box 2-3 times a week and clear up any clumps of litter that might be solidifying in the corners of the box where the rake doesn't really touch directly. Sometimes if your cat wants to use the exact same spot in the box all the time, you'll end up with the storage box overflowing just in that one spot, with nothing else in the rest of the reservoir. So really it's wise to attend to the storage box and help remove clumps as soon as you notice it. So yes, realistically you're going to want to empty the box every couple of days, but the fuller it gets, the worse the smell gets, and it gets really bad if you let the box fill up. I would recommend just thinking of all that storage space as 'insurance' for two-day vacations or if you forget for a while. The only down side about this box that I have found is that while it does appear to have a sensor for when the cat is IN the box, it doesn't appear to have one if the cat is behind the mechanism. This did result in one of our cats getting briefly trapped in the unit; needless to say he never did it again. He wasn't injured, and the motor-release was right there, but it did cause me some worry about how he may have been injured if we weren't right there. I suppose that would be my biggest request for this unit; put a motion sensor on the back side of the mechanism, so cats who are a little short in the brains department (like one of mine) doesn't get trapped by the returning mechanism. I like that this one only runs/scoops when needed. It does a good job of sensing motion. The motor isn't too loud while it's raking, but mine is getting caught up somehow on it's way to the back of the box and is making a very loud sound as it gets stuck and then finally unstuck. I haven't been able to figure out what the issue is. Because I got this box primarily to use when we are gone for a few days or a week, it's not ideal as I feel like it just needs too much attention. I am still scooping almost daily and checking to make sure it's still on and that the rake hasn't missed any bits and pieces. And the loud noise is bad, especially at night. With some tweaks this could be a really good self-scooping litter box, but as it is it's just ok. I have five cats, so we go through a lot of litter. I am always looking for new ways to streamline my routine. So one of those ways was getting the original scoop free litter boxes. In order to extend the life of my litter, I got the reusable pans, and physically scooped their "leavings" out of the compartment twice a day. I also lined the litter boxes with baking soda for extra odor control and use a combination of Arm and Hammer litter box deodorizers and fresh step crystals to fight the feces smell for those little tiny bits that the grate sometimes leaves behind that are impossible to scoop out. My biggest complaint was that even though I had six original scoop free litter boxes for five cats (expensive, I know), that the "poop containers" would fill up so quickly and stink up the house, even when I was emptying them consistently once or twice a day. Also, the grate itself would get filthy, and there was no way to remove it to properly clean it. The box was also very low to the ground and didn't have much depth, so the litter scatter was everywhere all the time and forced me to have to change it more often because all the litter was soiled with urine, and because the depth was so thin, it made it super noticeable to both me and my cats that it was time to change the litter. I was skeptical about buying an automatic litter box, but oh man, I'm so glad I took the plunge! The PetSafe ScoopFree Crystal Pro Legacy has been a lifesaver. No more scooping, no more mess, no more stress. The motion-sensing lid is so convenient, and the crystal litter is incredibly effective at controlling odors. The health counter is also a great feature - it's helped me keep an eye on my cat's health and catch any potential issues early on. Highly recommend this product to all cat owners! The crystal litter is also super effective at controlling odors, and the self-cleaning feature is a dream come true. I've already recommended this litter box to all my fellow cat owners - it's a total smart choice for anyone who wants to keep their kitty happy and healthy. Finally, a litter box that works with minimal effort! The self-cleaning mechanism is super convenient, and the disposable crystal litter tray lasts a long time. My cat seems happier and cleaner. Definitely a great investment. Excellent product! The integrated health counter is a fantastic feature that helps me keep track of my cat’s health. The uncovered design makes my cat feel secure, and the automatic cleaning keeps odors at bay. This litter box is a lifesaver! It’s very easy to set up and maintain. The motion sensor activates cleaning instantly, and I appreciate the included disposable tray. My cat took to it immediately, and I couldn't be happier. Top notch product! The ScoopFree Crystal Pro provides a clean, odor-free environment for my cat. The health monitoring feature is a bonus, and the automatic cleaning makes my life so much easier. delivered in spades. Five stars for odor control alone! The crystal litter traps the moisture and the scent immediately. The fact that all waste is raked into a covered compartment means no exposed mess between clean cycles. Setup was simple: just plug it in and slide the included disposable tray into the unit. The uncovered design is perfect for my large cat, giving her plenty of space and comfort. For anyone who struggles with that persistent, telltale litter box smell. I've tried every litter box under the sun, and the PetSafe ScoopFree Crystal Pro Legacy is, simply put, a miracle. The promise of no scooping for weeks is completely true! The automatic rake is quiet and efficient, sweeping waste into the sealed trap 20 minutes after my cat, Luna, is done. The motion-sensing safety feature gives me great peace of mind that she's always safe. The crystal litter is the real star—the odor control is unbelievable. My laundry room used to have a faint litter smell, but now there is virtually none, even after two weeks of use. Cleanup is a five-second job: slide out the old disposable tray (which is leak-proof and has a built-in lid!), toss it, and slide in a new one. Zero mess, zero hassle. I am genuinely astonished at how much this has simplified my life. It’s a must-buy for any cat owner. My cat, Prince Fluffington, is a diva and very particular about his litter box cleanliness. I was nervous about the transition to an automatic system, but he took to the uncovered design immediately. He seems much happier using a box that is consistently clean. The low-noise raking mechanism doesn't startle him, which was a huge relief. From my perspective, the value is incredible. No more daily scooping has given me back precious time, and the automatic cleaning cycle ensures Prince Fluffington always has a fresh spot. The first disposable tray lasts for a long time, and the cleanup is the easiest part of owning a cat. I recommend this litter box to anyone who loves their cat but not the chore of scooping!

Works great, no removable compartment to dump between tray changes
Edit- So I see the newest generation of this box and I am so upset I didn't see this anywhere for purchase when I bought the original. I feel like I bought a money pit with these trays and crystal litter and it doesn't even have the removable bin like the newest. This new one is everything I wanted but I didn't see it was available anywhere although the release date was July 17 and I bought mine July 29. Pretty bummed. I wish I had the opportunity to get the newest version when I made my purchase. Other than shedding hair, having to scoop a litter box is the only drawback to having a cat, in my opinion. I have a new kitten. I bought this litter box knowing I didn't want to scoop, obviously. I also have two older cats who will be coming back to live with me after a few years of travel nursing. I figured I needed to make the litter maintenance streamlined with an automated box. I was also hoping it would keep any smells down to zero. So far, this is my experience. First off, the litter trays are super expensive, nearly cost prohibitive. But if used properly, it is not so bad in comparison to the cost of clay litter for multiple cats, and you might as well get the reusable tray and buy the fresh step crystals. I have one kitten, and the only way I can avoid replacing a whole tray in less than a week is by removing the scooped poo from the stored compartment. I think this is how it should be used, and it just isn't clarified. Any other auto box is going to require you to remove the scooped poo, but the difference with this one is that it doesn't have a removable compartment you can dump. You have to remove the poo yourself. This is still better than scooping the old-fashioned way. Just grab gloves hold your nose, lift the storage compartment and hurry it into a bag. This will extend the life of the trays. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. Otherwise, you have to change the whole tray at least weekly, and this is just with a kitten. If you are going to replace the whole tray every time the compartment is full, then you might as well pay the 699 for one of those fancier contraptions that use the regular litter. By the time you pay for disposable litter trays on a weekly basis for the life of this box, you will have bought several of the high-priced fancy ones over and over. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. It does have some litter spill out of the compartment in the front end, and it sits. It is not a lot at all. Make sure you clean out from under there from time to time; it is a scant amount. I started putting a puppy pad under it so orders don't absorb into the floor. Not a big deal. The litter doesn't track at all. Have never used this crystal litter, but I love it. The kitten loves the box. At first, he freaked out by the fact it moved, but no problem with using it. When it's quiet and starts working 20 minutes after its last use, we forget we have it and think someone is in the house, and then we both remember it's just the box and go back to relaxing. It's pretty quiet, though. My boyfriend loves that it is a clean way to manage litter; he is not a fan of cats and worries it will smell, but he is warming up to the cat and to the whole idea with this box.

Not worth purchasing
I've tried to chat with customer service for questions about this litter box, but I keep getting sent to an invalid page. Positives: I was happy to pay the lower price for this self cleaning litter box. It was easy to put together and simple enough to see how it works. Problem 1: keeps getting jammed because the rake can't finish cleaning. The plastic trap door, that is supposed to lift up and allow the rake to push the waste into the collection bin, keeps falling off and this stops the rake. I have to keep resetting the door to get the rake to move. This has happened when it's been newly cleaned, and of course when it's been used. The lid gets smeared with waste, so it has to be cleaned. The waste that doesn't go into the bin gets stuck on the wrong side of the box. So now, I have to pick all of that out to dispose of (I do use disposable gloves). Unfortunately, this happens at least once a day. Problem 2: I chose to get the stainless steel tray, after trying the disposable one that came with it. I was hoping this would reduce the cost of using this specific litter box. Plus, I have 4 cats so I have to clean the waste bin regularly, and the disposable ones are too expensive for me. I kept the other "old fashioned" box in use because I've always used at least 2 boxes. However, because the bin on this new one is too narrow to fit a scoop, I have to use disposable gloves to remove the waste. Overall, this hasn't saved me from having to remove the waste less often, but in fact much more often. I have to use gloves to fix it, clean it, etc., which I didn't have to do with the old box. There are several design improvements that need to be made to improve the function of this box. Suggestions: Make the plastic bin cover more secure when seated. Have the rake lift slightly higher to keep it from getting stopped by the bin cover. Make the receptacle deeper AND wider to get a scoop in it. OR, make the bin removable so it can be emptied easily. I will definitely know what to look for should I buy another "self cleaning" litter box. Update: As of today, June 25, 2025, I've not been contacted by the vendor, manufacturers, or Amazon. I'm disappointed that they have no resolution to the issues I described. The issues I've reported continue, and now there's a new one. The cover to the waste bin, keeps coming off, and some of the waste falls to the floor. There's no way I can secure it, as that would restrict it from being able to lift. My adult daughter, who helps me with clear he litter boxes, has.ended up just carrying the bottom tray out to dispose of the waste. So, that means I have to use more litter than the old fashioned box. Please note before you buy this, THERE IS NO REFUND OR OFFER TO REPLACE. THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THE LINK PROVIDED.

Works as expected
Edit: 11/26/2024, product is still working with no issues. Recently Purchased Pet info: Indoor Kitten: 13 weeks old Rescued: 2 weeks ago (at 11 weeks) Other pets: 2 dogs (1 pit bull and 1 puggle) Diet: Dry Diet/Free to eat whenever: Nature's Variety® Instinct® Original Kitten Food - Natural, Grain Free, Chicken Wet Diet/One can a day: Nulo MedalSeries All Life Stages Wet Cat Food (flavor varies) Note: I used a detailed Reddit post about what to feed my kitten. I used the recommendation of the shelter on how often to feed my kitten. Product age: 1 week Cover type: uncovered Product Review: Overall, the product works great. Have not had to touch the product since in use. Based on the meter, as of this morning, she has used (or has been in) it 41 times since start (kittens tend to go more often than cats). Literally no smell of urine. However, the poop smell can be a lot. Do not stop reading here, we were transitioning our kitten’s diet from the shelter food, to what is listed above and now that she’s settled, the poop smell has gone away (inviting a honest friend over to give us the home smell test). The product advises not to use plugged in until your cat is 6 months old. Reading into it, it seems that all automatic/self-cleaning cat litter boxes have the same advisory because of the cats weight (may not register) or because they will try to play with it while it’s doing is cleaning cycle. Despite the advisory, I’m very much into instant gratification and plugged it in immediately. Fortunately, I work from home and have time to monitor kitty’s behavior. When the machine starts running, she does run to it to watch, but she’s never tried to play with it. Keep in mind, we have had our kitten for 2 weeks now. She used a regular litter box for a week while with us. When I made the switch to this product, I removed the old litter box completely from the household. I did not put any of her used litter in this product. However, I did sprinkle (literally a dash of) fresh litter that was used in her old litter box to mix with the crystals for this product. The original litter that we purchased advertised kitten attraction to get them familiar where to go. I placed this product where her original litter box was. I’m not sure how people know if their cats love their litter box, but I guess if they use it that means they love it? Anyway, she began using it immediately. We have had no accidents. Other review concerns commentary: Poop sticking to the rake: had one experience with it, it was not terrible, and after it cycled a couple times it had fallen off the rake. Also, it was during good transition. Leaking litter tray: have not checked, a little scared to check. However, I would be surprised if it got through the tray and the lid to get to the floor. The disposable tray fits into the lid. Once it’s time dispose, you remove the lid from the tray and place it on top. Odor control: Literally no pee smell. Poop smell during food transition. Honest friend home smell test to come. My friend does not have a cat. Expensive: Yes. Expected, yes. It is not unusual when one buys things like this, they are going to have to fork out some money to maintain it. Someone buys a luxury car, they pay extra for maintenance. Faulting the product over how much it costs and how much the tray replacements is not fair in my opinion. Edit: Passed friend test. Still works great. Tray did not leak. I’ve replaced the tray at about 75 uses. Edit: 10/21/2022 Still love this product. I’ve opted to buy the drop in top to keep the dogs away. Now that my cat is a little older, it is about a month of use before replacing. If people are having issues it is probably because they are not using it as intended or they feed their cats a poor diet.

Worth the price
Absolutely worth it. My cats took a minute to get used to it, but once they figured it out it's been great. Helps with the smell and yes the litter is more expensive than traditional litter but in the end I feel like I'm spending less because I'm not constantly scooping and adding to the boxes. It's pretty quiet overall and doesn't take up too much space. It replaced 2 liter boxes and sits in the space they were before.

Only buy it new from PetSafe
This is an awesome product & my cat not only loves it, but worships it! Unfortunately the one I got from Amazon, does not work, the rake never moved. It was easy to set up straight from the box. If new and functional it's very quiet, not much space needed, needs a two prong electric outlet, empty for one cat about every 14-21 days. Advertised as box only damage & discounted. It should have been tested by Amazon before resale as a return.

I think its worth it.
I love this litter box. I see a lot of mixed reviews, so heres what I think. Ill start with I have 2 cats, 1 is 10 lbs and the other is 13 lbs, and Ive had this box for just over a year now. I bought the plastic reusable tray, which was a big money saver, because the cardboard trays do not last long and I feel they hold smell pretty badly. I still change the litter once a week, but again, bigish cats. The machine does get dirty but what doesnt get dirty from bodily function. The grates get poop stuck to them but I feel that's because the poop was still wet. So if you press the button for the clean cycle before the poop drys, it tends to stick. Just let the machine do its job and I feel you can have a cleaner experience. I fully deep cleaned the machine twice now and both times I feel it came clean easy and it was not that bad/gross. They give tips on how to get you cats used to the machine if they seemed scared of it. The overall smell is better throughout the house. But the box without the top, I can smell their fresh drop for a minute. But its ok I still love my cats. With all that being said, if you dont like this because it takes to much maintenance, then go spend a couple more hundred dollars on a different one and see if its worth the price and actually less maintenance. For the price of this product and what I received, I believe its worth it because it is so much better then a regular scoop it your self litter box.
