nice intro to photography
Great introduction to the camera. It's more about taking photos than a manual for your D600 but that's good because you can take a lot of what's in the book into practice instead of just reading function X and function Y which you will soon forget.Would recommend to anyone with a Nikon camera that has similar features to D600. On D7000, D700 etc, the tips in the book should help.

Very helpful and easy to read!
I recently upgraded to the D600 and wanted to also upgrade my photography skills. I bought Mr. Sylvan's book and read it front to back and unlike many other such books, this one was easy to read and provided the info I needed on how raise my skills. I feel much more comfortable and knowledgeable after reading this book and feel it was well worth the money. Rob's writing style is down to earth, with very little techno-babble, so that even a novice like me could understand!

Consistent High Quality Reading
I had bought the FS2GS for my D7000 and was certainly pleased with my "education" in learning how to use the D7000 to its potential.....and when I upgraded to the D600, this was the first book that I felt would bring me to the same level of expertise. It did not disappoint!

Easy to follow
I am really glad I got this book. It has helped me make the transition form a D-90. I am an amateur photographer trying to improve my images to reach my goal of taking shots worthy of what the D600 is really capable of producing. Sylvan's book has given me a better understanding of how to really make use of this camera. It is a great reference guide for a new user as myself.

D600 and DSLR for beginners
The book is ideal if the D600 is your first DSLR. The author describes even the most basic aspects of photography (What is aperture and how does it influence the look of the image) and always relates it to the appropriate settings on the D600.I knew a bit about photography and DSLRs already but still read the book front to back and could find 10-15 useful information about settings.Well worth it in my opinion.

A good buy
In spite of problems with dust on the sensor (Nikon will correct this problem free of charge), this is a superb camera. It gives non professionals the chance to use a full frame camera at a reasonable price. My landscape photography has been transformed by this camera. The detail obtained is incredible.

Beginners really
I was looking for an in depth guide to the D600, this book is not it. The menus on the D600 are so extensive that I thought a deeper concise review would help. Unfortunately this book dwells far too much on general photography and offers no specific D600 recommendations. Probably ideal for beginners who have bought the D600 in error, but more experienced SLR users will already know a lot of this stuff.

A book about general photography and not about the D600.
When I purchased the D600 I was rather disappointed with the manual so I purchased this book thinking it would go into more depth about the functions etc on the D600, well it's worse. The book is a general guide to the D600 and a general guide to basic photography.

Nikon D600: From Snapshots to Great Shots by Rob Sylvan
A masterfully written and adequately illustrated book with lots of practical tips and exercises! Truly a must have for first time users of a complex modern camera like D600 which is a work of affordable (considering its capabilities and features though they should have put more quality into some of the moving parts (dials!)). The BOOK (returning to the original topic!) actually makes one brave enough to dip into the Nikon user's manual which is detailed but formidable in its crowding of descriptions that sent the finger scratching the head a few times, and I am no newbie to cameras including complex ones! :-)A MUST HAVE and MUST READ
