Great book from a talented photographer.
Great book from a talented photographer. Only thing I do not like is that in many of the examples, the author uses expensive, fast prime lenses which most D5500 users would NOT be owning, using or buying. Good explanation of the concepts though and nice organization of dropping in where to use camera features.

Looks Good
Haven't really sat down and read thru it, more of a reference book for me. Thumbing through it, it did look good.

Helpful in terms of teaching photography techniques for people still learning or wishing to enhance their knowledge. Most helpful explaining the use of the many settings available using the Nikon D5500.

Very good for beginners.
Got it primarily for the set up info as menus are quite different from my old D40 and D5100. Certainly essential for serious D-SLR beginners as it gives explanations, instruction and assignments, but not too much new for the intermediate photographer, still useful for revision and the odd new tip and perspective, though!(Bought a light D5500 body rather than the long lusted after D7200 one due to its weight after developing problems with my wrists. Anno Domini!!)Update:Found at least one area where this book is vague -page 11-assigning ISO to the fn button. Can not get this to work from the few instructions given.I have subsequently found this is covered fully and clearly-with illustrations- in "D5500 for Dummies". A small thing, I know-but I wonder how many other potentially important things have been glossed over there are yet to be discovered. Still 4* as I think it is good for beginners and it has clarified some of the set up questions I have-but maybe "D5500 for Dummies " is the better buy long term.

but I am so happy I bought this
Haven't gotten through the whole book yet, but I am so happy I bought this. I got my camera and was only using the Auto modes, wondering why my pictures weren't that fantastic as I knew the camera could produce better pictures. After reading half of this book, I realise it's because I'm not actually using the camera to its full potential. Need some more time to be able to play around and practice more with it, but this is a fantastic guide and has already taught me so much about photography!

Helpful book
If you have this camera, this book certainly tells you more than the little booklet that comes with the camera. There is an awful lot that the camera can do and this book certainly helps me understand it.

only those needed to get good photos. However it is written to you
An excellant book on the D5500 camera, but does not cover all of the cameras settings, only those needed to get good photos. However it is written to you, and not down to you, and as you read thru the book it is as if he is wriring to a friend. GREAT BOOK.
