Makita's drill/drivers are what they are advertised to be. I own three. The oldest was purchased seven years ago and I've had no problems after moderate to heavy use on numerous DIY projects; a complete floor-to-ceiling kitchen remodel, various cabinet builds, and a bed frame and headboard currently in progress. I have purchased seven Makita-brand batteries and all but one continue to hold a strong charge (one failed after five years of use).

I bought two of these drills. Both drills exhibited excessive play with the chuck. After you tighten the chuck down on the drill bit you can wiggle the chuck a couple of millimeters. A decent drill will have no slop or wiggle. So save your money and buy something else. I am very disappointed. In addition after I discovered this chuck wiggle I went to the local hardware store and tired wiggling a few more chucks on other Makita drill models and some drills also exhibited this wiggle and some did not. So try your new drill out at the store first and if the chuck wiggles, return it.

Great drill, Caution: replaceable brushes.
This is an outstanding drill. If you can find it a tad cheaper. One important thing to note about this drill, the brushed will eventually wear andneed replaced. Read below...Pros: It has loads of power. Dont even WORRY about it. Drive lag bolts through railroad ties if you like.Smooth operation at full speed. One hand chuck. 2 speeds.Cons: No battery status indicator (like on Miluwakee). Battery is pretty thick (tall). Can hinder in tight spaces. And the brushes. There are two brushes at the rear of the drill that are easy to change. This drill was designed to allow the userto easily change the brushes with no soldering.I personally dont mind that. Since this drill has that good old fashioned power and feel to is.Ive changed brushed in many things in my years. But just keep that in mind. If you buy this drill, just buy 1 extra set of brushes. I have no idea how many hours the factory brushes will last. But heavy deep drilling will wear them faster than light thin drilling. If you are just a cabinet maker, or around the house do it yourselfer, you will probably never have to replace them.

very bad
I purchase it around 2 months ago .. used it in very light tasks for 15 min .. then i tied to test the hammer drill - after 10 seconds it was damaged - not working in any mode - only the led coming on - i did not force or overload it during the testok now i put the battery on the charger for few min and the drill start working ..i think it was a sort of reset as the battery was already full when the drill stopped - i am taking out one star as the problem was not easy to solve - no failure indicator or warning
