Joyful Mending: Beautiful Visible Repairs for the Things We Love

I have been a fan of visible mending since I was in high school in the 80’s, but this book gave me validation - and new ideas!!

I enjoyed skimming through the book when I first received it. Most of the mending ideas are for denim. I was expecting more definitive mending ideas for various denim clothing. I still have enjoyed the book.

I think this will be one of the books I buy after borrowing from the library. Ms. Noriko is is joyful and enthusiastic about making clothes and other textiles last longer that it's infectious. This book comes from some of her workshops that she holds. People bring in their holy/holey garments & such so Misumi can teach the best method of repairing the issue at hand. She uses many techniques, including crochet patches, fabric patches, traditional darning, needle felting and more. Also, she combines them in startling ways! I swear, the mended stuff is even more beautiful than the original.This book is a precious resource that I borrowed from my local library via Kindle. The pictures are probably better on the printed page, but the ebook is more than adequate. I have it on my list to buy soon in physical format.Highly recommended.Solid 9/10 unicorns🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

I bought this book at the recommendation of my daughter, she found it at her library and went thru her mending in one afternoon. I ordered it that day and have mended 2 pairs of jeans- the back pocket on one pair and the knee of another. The look mended in a fashionable cute way

I have been salvaging gently used clothing by mending holes and stains. This book provides basic mending instructions which are very helpful. Pictures and drawings are supportive of the narrative.

This book is so inspiring! In addition to having the best instructional guides to darning that I've ever seen in print, Joyful Mending is stuffed to the brim with creative ideas for lengthening the life of your clothing. I'll never throw away a sock again.

Very nice book.

I liked the book very much. IT provided a bunch of ideas in case studies for an effective and beautiful mending. I would have liked more "theoretical" information, like what type of thread should be used or the type of material that is more appropriate in each case. Nevertheless, the book does provide information about the stitches, and the material that is available for mending (I did not know there was such a thing as a mending mushroom!).Overall, very informative and fun book to have.

For example, there is nothing about sashiko mending in this book. Primarily it featured one type of (classic) darning and beginner needle felting. I've done some rudimentary mending and was looking for something to up my game to a more satisfying end result (like adding a bit of whimsy and cleverness in 'healing' a mended item). I was not inspired, nor did I find the format very informative or useful, although there were some exceptions. It just didn't come together! I read the whole book and wished I could put it back on the shelf instead of having to go to the trouble of returning it (a very rare occurrence). For a much more well-executed, truly helpful, and inspirational mending book look at Erin-Lewis Fitzgeralds MODERN MENDING.
