This thing looks more like a small jet engine than a fan
This thing looks more like a small jet engine than a fan, it's very well built. I found it very quiet when operated at full speed. Unfortunately it produces significantly more noise when operated at slower speeds. I used a KB Electronics solid state variable speed motor control. When I lowered the speed, motor hum and vibration was noticeable but not so noticeable to be a problem. It comes with a mounting bracket that makes installation much easier. The bracket is first installed by itself and the ducting is then connected to the bracket. Once this is done the motor is easily installed with plastic clamps that are provided. This makes it very easy to pull the motor out if you ever need to. Overall, works pretty well in my application as a return air inine duct fan. It moves a lot of air quietly.I plan to purchase more of these to use as individual whole house fans in our bedrooms. That will allow occupants of the bedroom to control the amount of fresh air coming in through the windows, or if on the ground floor, control air movement without having to open the windows.

Awesome product. Nice features compared to my fantech.
I got this to push air downstairs. We heat the upstairs with a stove. In the spring and fall, there's enough heat output in the stove to also heat the downstairs.First off this thing is quiet. Sone (perceived noise level) value of 0.5 compared to sone values of 3.5 to 4.0 for other S&P and my fantech FR-225 is LOUD.4 screws attach the bracket to the floor or wall. Two straps hold unit to the bracket. Easily reversible! Like the fantech's and other S&P's you can wire it to a two position switch (hi/lo) or you can wire it to a variable speed control. This installation was a tight retrofit and had to fit between 18" studs into a crawl space. The FR-225 would not have fit between them.Energy Star 121 watts at full steam. 5 year warranty.HVACQuick was quick! Same day ship and we received 3 days later 1/2 way across the country. The only thing that was confusing to me was which way the air flows. The exposed impeller is the source.

... ordered about 4 "quiet" duct fans that each sounded like a jet engine
I ordered about 4 "quiet" duct fans that each sounded like a jet engine. Finally gave up and decided to choke it up and spend the money to get these guys. I have two set up in the rafters of my attic to circulate air in my home theater with no windows (one to pull fresh air in from another room and one to pull air out into the attic.) These guys are whisper quiet at full speed and move a good amount of air - just what I needed. Very happy with the purchase.

Soler&Palau make great in line fans.
Soler&Palau make great in line fans. This fan was installed in the attic over our master bathroom. It does an excellent job of evacuating the humidity and does it quietly considering the volume of air flow that it moves. No comparison to those 4 inch bathroom fans. Just be sure to install a good vent cap with a back-draft damper with these.

Everything it's advertised to be.
We needed a vent that moves appx 500cfm of air in a large bathroom application. This unit is everything it's advertised to be. So quiet we have to listen hard to hear it running. We wired fan on high speed to a humidity sensor never think about it again.

Great for moving air around when heating with a central fireplace.
I bought 3 of these back in 2012. Bought from some other company, but I think the price on Amazon is a little better. These are very quiet and very well made. I built a cabin, and wanted to heat the whole thing with a built-in fireplace (Quadrafire). The issue in heating with a central fireplace is that the room with the fireplace gets too hot, and every other place is too cold. Air needs to be moved around, and I wanted to do this in an elegant way.Cabin is 1300 sq feet on each floor, for a total of 2600 total square feet. I circulate air with one fan on the first level, and another fan pushes air upstairs to heat all bedrooms. I use a 3rd fan in the summer to pull in air during the night for a poor man's air conditioning, (All the fans are in closet or storage areas with vents and ducting in the walls, so nothing shows. The 8" units are the ones I bought, so that I could turn the speed to low or medium, and still move a lot of air. They move a lot of air and are super quiet. Easy to install. Bracket gets installed first, then fan housing and motor (looks like small jet engine) fits into bracket with two adjustable straps. If fan were to fail, you can easily take the unit out without ripping out the ducting and everything else. Have used for 3 years with absolutely no issues. I use a high quality timer and a 3 amp rated rheostat to control the speed. I think the 8" units draw about 1.5 amp, but not sure. When people come up to visit, my fan engineering is the first thing I show them.
