Yes.should not be a problem. I swam in SF bay with this cap, an Orange over a latex cap, and the combo kept my from the cold just fine. I tried a neoprene cap with a chinstrap and couldn’t deal with the strap under my jaw. My head actually too hot with the neoprene hood. Never used it again.

For a more comfortable fit makes sure the front of the cup is just above your eyebrows and then adjust it through the back of your head. There is another cap, the “Arena 3D Soft Silicone Cap” which is smaller in size and with a tighter fit, this cap has the logo on the front of the cap.

This cap comes on one size only and is made for adults, It would be too loose for your 8 y.o boy.

Probably like most caps, it keeps it mostly dry, with some seepage at edges. I ended up needing a bigger cap to fit my hair better. If you have really short hair, this one seems like it would work well because it was quite snug.
