The Creation

Great piece of music, great edition.
An easy to read edition of music, the measures are already numbered (woo hoo!), and a very fun Haydn piece.

Did we really need a new translation?
I didn't realize--my bad, I was in a hurry--that this is a "new" translation. Of course, when I appeared at my voice lesson with this version, the next task was to write in the "real" lyrics. Who performs this type of music? People who are serious about singing. The last thing I would do would be to walk into an audition using this text. Boo.

O to sing what the composer intended!
If you are serious about singing this piece, especially as a soloist, do NOT buy this edition. It is too small to handle, confusing to read, with lyrics that are simply new for the sake of it and result in rewriting the music to an extent that is unacceptable. Even with the original words, there are no qualms about changing a note, such as in Bar 5 of Raphael's Recitative 5, where I was taken aback to find a second C in lieu of Haydn's D for "And let the dry LAND appear". There is nothing to beat Paul McCreesh's version and yet can we get a score? Is he just too selfish to publish it or what? PLEASE, someone tell me I'm wrong!
