Great device for preventing water damage.There is a cotton pad inside that swells when it gets wet and pushes a pin to shut off the water.There is and extra pad inside the device. Just use a screw driver to pry the side out a bit to open it.It's recommended you take the pads out while hooking this up to the water line so you don't waste a pad if it leaks during the process.The cotton pad is the only thing you need to replace if you ever do have a leak.There leak detector can by secured to the floor with two screws for easy removal but also has a self adhesive bottom for a more permanent installation. I recommend using the screws if possible.

Good device, but the replacement sponges ("cottons") are $9 for a pack of 5! Next time I'd buy a unit that has cheaper sponges since if you accidentally trigger the device with some water, then you need to pay a lot to replace the sponge. If they would have included at least one extra it wouldn't be so bad.Also, unit didn't seem to come with ANY instructions, but it's not too hard to figure out.

Does what it says, and low cost. Wish I could find replacement sponges.Be sure to remove sponges before installation until you are sure the fittings are secure, then install them to avoid wasting one on hookup.
