So I have bought these gouges once and had to have them replaced because of a flaw in the metal of one of the gouges. The replacement ones showed up the next day after I reported my problem at no cost and I sent the flawed ones back. They are pretty easy to use. I have made a few signs in my backyard so far and I have started on a garden Gnome from an old oak tree limb that broke off. The gouges are not having a problem with the dense wood and other than the initial one that had a flaw I am very happy with the product. I am thinking of getting a second set for backup when I have to sharpen the first one.

If you're a beginner that's not looking to drop the money on a good set until you know if you're going to like wood carving. Then this is a good enough set for the price. Quality is decent, however if you've come to expect certain results from your equipment. Then this isn't the set for you. Great gift for a in-law or family member who might not be your favorite lol.

If you're not a serious woodworker but want to go bigger than whittling, this is a good cheap but workable set of tools.

I am seeing edge deformation after playing with them for a little bit. May work for some soft woods but when I was carving end grain the edge had a few Knicks in it. Carving tools should be able to handle that. I like the handles and size and that is why I got them . I just wish they could keep an edge.

Within a minute of using these on very soft wood, the cheap brittle steel edge cracked. Returned these immediately. I do not recommend these for wood, plastic, or anything solid. They would be great for carving a butter statue.

They're nice for beginners. One blade already chipped a little. I have only used them on wood so I'm not sure why it chipped. Maybe a flaw in that piece. But overall, not a bad little set if you aren't carving wood thats too hard.
