MikroTik is a serious contender for replacing Cisco 1900, 2900 and 3900 series routers and even newer series Cisco routers. In head-to-head comparisons with a Cisco 2901, the MikroTik CCR sustains much higher packets-per-second and overall throughput with less CPU utilization. While Cisco enterprise feature set can do more than MikroTik, if you're using Cisco IP base license and even the security license, you should find just about anything you need in a MikroTik CCR. It will take some time to get used to but you'll be rewarded. The only drawback in this platform is WAN connectivity. There is no option to put modems, T1 cards, etc. in the MikroTik. It is Ethernet only but they don't purposely throttle the performance like Cisco has done for many years. If you can get T1 delivered in Ethernet via Adtran or similar, use MetroEthernet and Internet connections, you're in a great position to have achieve really great performance at a lower price than Cisco. I've been using Cisco since the 90's and use them in small, medium and large deployments but sometimes you just need something with higher performance at a great price. MikroTik has been the best solution. We have large deployments in networks with over 30 MikroTik routers from the smallest to the CCR and we've been extremely satisfied.

Routing performance is great.. but vpn never wants to work, queue is hit and miss.. if you just want a high performing router without vpn then this is for you

If this Mikrotik was on your shortlist of routers to purchase, you should wait for a firmware/software update on the MikroTik RouterOS before purchasing. VPNFilter is a multistage malware where it is able to infect a router and have the malware persist even after a reboot. The additional stages of the malware allow it to do data collection and other botnet related activities. And as a last countermeasure, it is able to overwrite firmware to "brick" the device if desired. This is my first high end router i am use to low end routers for gaming i have use d-link and lots of linksys routers both old and new and modded with dd-wrt the last router that i use was a Cisco small business router wrvs4400n but i was looking for more cpu and more memory on the routers mostly all the routers that i had use was just 600mhz and 64k in memory or 128k i really did not want to pay 1000 us for a router but now using it for 3 months i love it i have added more memory to it from 4 gig to 16 gig and the best thing is it does not get hot when gaming for 12 hrs and the power is great and i also use the RB2011 UAS-2HnD-IN for my wifi i use the sfp ports from router to router MikroTik works for me it was so different i had to call tech support to help me set it up i look for u tube video on it to learn more about it but it is sill very new so i am thinking about going to school for this router there are so many controls and setting and the touch screen is great to see real time traffic so if you can spare a few more dollars get it. I have 2 camera systems ,2 dell severs ,4 laptops ,2 roko boxes ,3 cell phones running on it and use cox Business cable
