Excellent OEM replacement engine air filter for the Mazda RX8
This engine air filter is a great OEM replacement engine air filter for my 2006 Mazda RX8 (AT trans). To install you undo the two clips that hold the air filter compartment together. You can then slide the old air filter out and add in the new one. It should be one single filter unlike the cabin air filters.Opening the engine air filter compartment can be a bit annoying on the RX8 but there are tons of videos online that go over the process and it becomes very straight forward.Pros:*Great OEM fit*Performs well when installedCons:*None so farAdditional Considerations:This filter is the ENGINE air filter, not the cabin air filter. Make sure if a mechanic is recommending you change the "air filter" that he/she specifies which one.Overall: 5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, <.5 rounds down) => 5 starsIf you have any further questions regarding the product in my review please leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Cheapest upgrade for your RX-8
Bit of a pig to open the airbox. That's not the air filter's fault. Fitted perfectly. Filtration material looked and felt similar in texture and thickness to the OEM filter. Cars seems a little quicker if I put my foot down. May be my imagination.

Direct replacement for RX-8
This is a perfect replacement for the OEM RX-8 filter. I have not noticed any change in performance. Also, a great price for a hard to find item.

I'm sticking with Purolator - the oldest Car filter manufacturer on the planet.
As a former big fan of Fram, AC Delco, and Wixx; I've moved on to Purolator. I read an article on OEM parts manufacturers in Popular Mechanics - Purolator manufactures most filters for OEM replacement parts and brands them with the manufacturers name and branding. I thought to myself, hmm... well if the manufacturer uses them so will I. I'm impressed with the overall production/quality of Purolator products, they weight and composition of materials seem far better when compared to the aforementioned makers (excluding Wixx, their parts seem comparable, but usually are higher-priced). Coincidently the article mentioned Gates as the preferred belt maker for engines made by the manufacturers, and Alpine for sound equipment/systems. Please note that cabin filters, Purolator's included, seem almost a scam compared to crankcase air filters, as the cabin air filters are far slower air movement and relatively clean compartments. I strongly urge you to compare the oil filters as well, the Fram feels like it's an empty can versus the Purolator, it' my humble opinion to stick with suppliers for the manufacturers, as you get the same product, minus the mark-up.
