A great read
Not everyone needs to know how to forge and build a straight razor, but knowing about the process has helped me learn how to refurbish them and how to recognize the good ones on the used market.

Far to many errors in text and missing the diagrams
In reading this I found it had a ton of errors in the text. Some of them are bad enough that you can’t understand what the author was try to convey. Also it wants you to refer to images/diagrams that are not even present making some of the information almost useless. Some information in the text is great but it’s really not a well done book by any means unfortunately.

Craftsmanship for the Ages
In "The Straight Razor Renaissance," retired master bladesmith Robert Williams has left the world a gift that goes far beyond what some have called "the cult of traditional shaving." Williams was one of the pioneers in the reawakening of interest in traditional shaving that began in the early 2000's that has since grown exponentially--now to an estimated two billion dollar industry with literally hundreds (if not thousands) of hobbyists, artisans, and small and not-so-small businesses producing all manner of traditional (or "wet") shaving accoutrements from shaving soaps and aftershaves to shaving brushes, and numerous types razors (single- and double-edged "safety" razors and the true art form: straight razors that are the subject of this book.)Williams begins by sharing a brief personal history--how he discovered and began creating traditional straight razors moving rapidly into the history of straight razors; then on to a description of what straight razors are and how to identify, acquire and, if necessary, restore and maintain your own vintage razor. Most of this book is rightly devoted to the how straight razors are made and, if one has the interest, how to go about creating one's own razor (how to select, treat and process the steel and other materials--along with the equipment needed-- both basic and advanced.) It's a fascinating read for anyone interested the creation of fine art.Notice that I use the word "art" -- not "craft." That's because the state of mind implicit in what Williams describes goes far beyond the creation of straight razors. It is the same state of mind that drives--and has driven--all great artists, great musicians and composers, as well as accomplished artisans reaching back into antiquity. All this is to say, as Williams suggests on p. 109, passion--and I might add discipline and persistence--can pay significant life-long rewards; rewards that can might extend years--and even generations--into the future.Robert Williams straight razors have rapidly become cherished treasures in the collections of those fortunate enough to possess them. Yet for those who do not own one--or even for those who have no interest in straight razors per se, "The Straight Razor Renaissance" is well worth your time. I was fortunate to be able to secure the last signed copy directly from the author. It is a book I hope to pass on to my grandchildren.Brad Sears

All Encompassing Book Regarding Straight Razors
The information in this book is worth more than the price tag. It's saved a lot of coming and going, lurking on knife/razor forums searching for the info you need to either start buying, collecting, honing, shaving, restoring and making straight razors. It wraps up all aspects concerning this tool into an easy reading package. Definitely would be a 5/5 if it wpuld have more pictures and diagrams (unless that is simply a fault of my e-reader).
