The book was used, but in really good condition. Pleased with this purchase.

As surveys go, this is a masterpiece. It gives the reader the background he/she probably doesn't have and works its way through the most interesting arguments to be had about languages in general. A great read!

Dr. Pereltsvaig has written a fascinating and very approachable explanation of linguistics for a lay audience. It has been used as a textbook in multiple classrooms, and has been updated for the second edition. Highly recommended.
