Has Acceptable Defects..Its good though
Nice light so far however (I have not installed it yet) I notice a chip on the lens at the point where it was cut from the scrap plastic from machine molding. Not very noticeable, but it is a defect. If its not exactly perfection, I won't give more than three stars. We'll see how it installs and works & I'll update as soon as I do.UPDATE SEPT 26, 2013I upgraded from three to four stars since it looks great on my 02 red Mustang and installation is plug and play with only two bolts/nuts. You can believe the other reviewers when they say you'll need to use a pair of pliers and crimp the connector ends so they will fit into the harness. For this car, you'll need a 10mm DEEP socket to uninstall/install. You may also have to buy new nuts.I was a little confused by the wiring. Red and black are self explanatory pos/neg on the new unit, however the original harness on the 02 Mustang is black and green. You can probably plug them in either way, but I figured it was wise to match up black to black and red to green. This may not be right, but it does work (The bulbs you will pull out does not have polarity, so I'm fairly certain this doesn't matter.. don't take my word for it though. When it comes to electricity, I rely on some luck.Overall, I'm happy with it.

A Mighty Fine Product!
Out the gate this black Redlines third brake light assembly fits the exact same models as theirĀ Redlines Chrome LED 3rd Brake Light for Ford Mustang 99-04 Ā version. I have no idea why it says "Ford Mustang 99-02". I just finished installing this very same product on my 2004 Mustang, so this isn't a theoretical sort of thing. If it fits the 2002 Mustang, then it will fit the 2003 and 2004 Mustangs as well. Redlines may be costing themselves some sales by not including those appropriate years in their description. The lack of any instructions with the Redline third brake light was a surprise, but having recently removed the very same third brake light on my Mustang to clean behind it, I was already well aware of what was needed to switch it out. I figured I would document the installation process simply to benefit other pony owner's, but as it turned out this LED assembly is really a great product at a very fair price, and deserves the additional documentation and install photos.Photo 1 - The assembly comes bubble wrapped and packed in a snug fitting box, then is packed by Amazon in a second heavy box for shipping. A gasket with a single sticky side to seal out moisture is included as well. There are only two nuts that hold the assembly in place, and you will need a 10mm deep socket to remove them.Photo 2 - The two nuts holding the assembly are located under the trunk lid. They are basically happy little nuts and other than needing the deep socket to remove, they are not a challenge to reach. My photo shows the bulb sockets released from the assembly by giving the sockets a quarter twist counter-clockwise, but that isn't really necessary at this point. However, you do need to separate the electrical connection at the assembly by pressing the tiny release tab and sliding the connectors apart.Photo 3 - Having gently removed your old brake light assembly, laying the assembly next to your new third brake light will quickly give you an idea of how the switch is going to happen. The entire wire harness from the old assembly will need to be removed and installed on the new assembly. A few push pins and tabs hold the harness in place, with the trunk light socket and electric connectors released by giving them a twist until they line up with their release tabs.Photo 4 - Move the wire harness over to your new brake light assembly and make any connections you can. This is where the install became a little tricky for me. No matter how hard I pushed, I could not get the LED connectors to seat completely in the bulb sockets. The bulk of the problem was that the electrical connectors for the light bulbs were simply too small for the much thicker LED connectors to press in. This is not a big problem since the electric connectors have just a plastic tab holding them in the socket. Gently lifting the plastic tab will free the connector to slip completely out of the socket. Some moderate squeezing with a large needle nose plier opened the connector enough for the LED connectors to press in firmly. This is also where I have some concerns regarding previous comments made by folks who installed this assembly. Some have mentioned that wiggling the wire harness caused the lights to flicker. Seriously, when these LED connectors are FULLY SEATED in the bulb socket there is no question about it. The connectors will bottom out in the socket with a CLICK that can be felt as well as heard. Just pushing them in as far as you can and calling it good will cause problems down the road. The gasket supplied with the Redlines assembly is a bit different shaped from the factory gasket, but it works just fine. Use the old assembly as a guide for placement of the gasket when sticking the gasket to the new assembly. You'll want to note where Ford ran the gasket so that the gasket leaves no gaps for water to leak in, but is still hidden by the assembly lens. Do not get overzealous when tightening the nuts that hold the assembly in place during final assembly. The gasket should be compressed a bit, but the bolts that the nuts screw on are held by nothing more than some soft plastic. It would be very easy to strip the bolts right out of the assembly if too much torque is applied.Enjoy your new third brake light! I imagine as the 99-04 Mustang models age there will be more and more of a demand for items such as this.

Exactly what I wanted. Very easy install. QUICK ship.
If you're looking for a replacement 3rd brake light or want to change to something more stylish then OEM -this is what you need to buy. I have a 2001 Stang/Roush custom. Perfect fit with approx 15 minutes to install. LEDs are very bright, while hiding nicely behind a smoked lense. A must to go along with smoked or blacked-out tail lights. My ONLY negative to this product would be that the metal/blue plastic connectors are very delicate. Be very cautious as to wiring it right the first time, otherwise you'll need to pull on the little plug(s) which could bend the metal pieces & could break off. Don't listen to the people complaining about the install. So what if it didn't come with instructions. Simply Google an installation video -I found a few within seconds that will show you how to properly install this thing. You'll have to remove two nuts from under the trunk lid, gently remove the existing wiring harness, & pull out the existing bulbs with the exception of the trunk light on the end of the strip. Then simply plug the blue connectors into the where the bulbs were (VERY IMPORTANT: make SURE that the blue plugs are connected so that the wiring is black to black), neatly tuck wiring, & screw it back in. Be sure to test before screwing it back in completely. VERY EASY stuff. Overall, the product was as listed. Super-fast (regular) shipping to an impatient buyer. Price was competitive. Online shopping done easy. BUY IT!
