... the first kava I have tried and it's quite good. It tastes like weak tea
This is the first kava I have tried and it's quite good. You are given quite a lot in this package and it will last a very long time.Kava tastes like weak tea, like the second cup made with a teabag. This product is a powder and will be inert if over 120* for too long. It is not recommended that you drink kava if you are under the age of 18.how I make it:I add two tsp to the foot of a clean nylon and tie with a small plastic band. I add this to a tumbler of coffee and shake. Then I refill, shake and drink. After this one I will squish out the kava with my hands. It will be oily and thick. Usually I drink another 12oz of coffee and kava or until it just feels like mulch. This is what kava does to you: it will make you sleepy, it will dehydrate you, it will make your mouth go numb, it will kill your appetite for a day or two, it will give you a feeling of wellness and relaxation, it will make you ridiculously happy if you are exposed to something good/funny, it will let you think about overwhleming things without being anxious or overwhelmed at all.You should also know that it might cause liver failure and might increase heat rate. Ask your doctor before drinking kava if you are on medication. Finally, kava is non-addictive and doesnt impair thinking. That said, you should not consume more than 8 tablespoons of kava in a day because you are at high risk for going comatose. I believe that kava is a sedative so if you are sensitive to sedatives, be responsible! It will make some people nauseous but this usually can be resolved with smaller doses in the future. Kava does not make me feel nauseous at all.Good luck to all, feel free to leave a comment and I can answer any questions.

The stuff is just fine, IMO.
I got a pound and it's certainly kava. I believe it is also very likely noble and very likely lateral roots. It's a heavy kava, makes a strong, dark grog. Took 15 minutes of kneading to really release the "greasy" kavalactones, but that's fine. From the effects and peppery taste in the throat and lack of headiness I'd say it is very likely from Vanuatu, at least the batch I got. Perfectly adequate kava, especially for relaxation, anxiety, mild pain relief, and sleep. Not a "premium" kava, but it's fine for an affordable kava. Caused me no ill effects so I think it is very likely noble, with no tudei. I plan to use it as a mixer, to blend with other kavas, probably some Fijian lawena. At this price, the quality is decent enough and I will probably be reordering. Keep in mind this stuff is strong and probably best for night time use, not day time.Follow up two days later: it's fine on its own but I prefer it made with Wakacon Fijian lawena, 2 parts of the Mood & Mind to 1 part lawena. It just makes it a little bit better, more balanced, less peppery, better for drinking and sort of stronger. I like it enough I bought a few more pounds.3 day follow up: the second batch I ordered arrived, all with a lot # of KAVAPW16170627, slightly different packaging, leading me to suspect they buy big lots from different producers and slap their label on it. The first batch I got was lot #KAVAPW16170509. If anything the second was better. Dry smell not as impressive, but grog as dark, more peppery taste. Took 3 or 4 minutes of kneading to get greasy and was ready in 8 minutes instead of 15. Not as numbing, but slightly stronger effect, very heavy. Definitely Vanuatu. No ill effects. About 10% better than the first batch, which was fine.

Don't listen to the naysayers, this is good quality kava
I felt compelled to write a review after reading some of the negative reviews on. I'm not a huge kava head but I've bought kava from several of the respected, high grade vendors recommended in kava forums and on Reddit. This stuff is pretty much just as good. I suspect a lot of the bad reviews are by people who don't know how to prepare kava correctly. It's not just a toss and wash kind of herb. Nor can you just let it steep because kavalactones aren't soluble in water. You have either knead it in water by hand for 10 minutes (as the Pacific Islanders do) or blend it in a blender for 3-4 minutes. Either way, you must filter it well after because kava root has woody elements which cause serious gastrointestinal discomfort and nausea if they aren't filtered out. I'd recommend buying a purpose built filter bag from a kava vendor as those do the best job in my experience. Some of them give you one with an order. There might be other ways, but I've also tried filtering with a wire seive and a mesh bag and still got a bit nauseous (though both were much better than toss n wash). Also, I'd recommend getting a scale accurate to the gram and measure. The difference between no effect, just right and having trouble walking doses is pretty narrow (for me, 25 g is just about right, but 30 will be way too much). You don't want to just eyeball that. The Pacific Islanders deal with this problem by making a whole bunch and then drinking a small cup (called a shell) of 4-6 oz every 20 minutes, seeing how that affects them and continuing until they're where they want to be (similar to how most cultures drink alcohol). That's probably the best way to enjoy kava but I don't have the patience for it.

Like MULCH - Product Quality Has Dropped
UPDATE 1/24/2017: Dropped to 2 stars now from 3 because they are dishonest. I posted a negative comment on their website regarding their drop in quality and jacking of price and they NEVER posted my comment after a couple weeks posting. They only post 5 star comments. Sad. Again, this is not the same product as it was a year ago. This stuff is like mulch and you don't get as good of an extraction. Have since found a better product for less money.UPDATE 8/22/2016: I have reduced my ratings as they have upped the price from $19.95 -> $24.95 -> $31.89 AND dropped quality. Sadly, it looses all of its value. Also, over the course of the year, the product went from a fine grind to a bunch of wood chips. I will be reviewing other providers at this price point.Original Post:Decent product, good value. Good product to try if you are interested in trying Kava Kava for the first time.
