Actually they can be used for even more. The clamp easily holds several pounds and the arm with 1/4-20 threads on each end pivots and moves at each end and in the middle. Attach something and loosen the red knob. When you get it positioned where you want, just tighten the red knob and all 3 joints stop moving. It's as flexible as your arm until you tighten the red knob. It comes with a cold foot to attach to the camera, and a double ended female 1/4-20 piece so using it will let you attach anything 1/4-20 male or female threaded. I have joined several of these together to get a speedlite in just the right position. You can attach a 2nd light half way up a tripod that's holding another light at the top too. I now have several in different lengths and use them frequently in my studio or out in the field.

I'm sure this product has its place, but using it to clamp to a tripod leg and hold a MacBook Air is not it. Don't get me wrong, it held up the laptop, but the clamp is just too small, I'd be afraid of it slipping over long term use. It might be good for an hour or so, but my tripod is on wheels and just rolling it around the kitchen (hardwood) and carpet, caused the product to twist with the laptop on it, which naturally caused my laptop to droop. Having this hooked to my tripod for a 5 hour wedding...not so much. Unfortunately will have to return it. 3 stars because it is sturdy and I'm sure would work for some purposes, just not mine.

I got it for twenty four buck o's with the clamp - and the clamp is the same size as sold elsewhere for five. So it's a great value. And it really works very well - and it even comes with that extra attachment for transforming to a flash OR 1/4" with the stop nut. COOL!

This is an excellent quality piece of equipment. Works perfectly.

Tried using this to hold a propane nozzle for annealing brass. It slips regardless of how tight I have it fastened. Kinda of disappointed. Went back to the holder that came with the device.

Seriously impressed by this magic arm. I am only using it on a 1lb monitor (including battery) but it’s holding super tight. And it has a rosette center arm (like teeth) so it won’t go anywhere! That’s something you only find in the expensive ones.You cannot go wrong with this for $25. It’s a must have!

Good price, holds even a heavier flashlight solid.

This is much better than I imagined it would be. Really sturdy, and high quality metal parts.
