A very good external drive
After much deliberation and reading many reviews I took a punt on this machine. Firstly, it is not a fake as stated elsewhere, but a genuine product manufactured with the approval of LG and Hitachi who no longer make this kind of product. Windows 10 recognised it immediately it was connected and it was reading a CD within minutes. Within a few more minutes it was successfully burning an audio CD and I have had no failures so far (around 20 discs including some that refused on my previous LG burner). I'm a little old fashioned when it comes to write speeds and my only small concern is that the minimum speed using Nero 7 is 10X. Having said this, everything sounds fine and no rejects. I've used the machine to play DVDs and again no problem using free VLC software. The unit is quiet both reading and writing and at this competitive price, as far as I'm concerned it's a no-brainer!

Have Fun
I ordered it late in the day. It was promised for next day delivery & it came next day, not that I was here to see it. Hokay, there's a USB 2.0 cable provided, there's a socket one side and a button on the opposite side. Plug cable into player and t'other end into laptop, move laptop connection from USB 3 to USB 2 and there's life, green & flickering, pity it didn't last long. Yes it appeared in File Explorer but not for long. Long story short I spent hours, day & night, looking for why, trying all the dead cert nostrums and nothing. So late one evening I went back to first principles, changed the USB cable and rolled the driver back (yes, we were getting desperate and there was a very, very, small exclamation mark in a yellow triangle by USB Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager) and it's worked since. I have decreed general rejoicing & a half-day holiday. Now we've got that out of the way, it's quiet, quite quick working, accurate & runs contentedly on windows 11 & don't need powered USB block so wot's not to like. Physically it's small, lightweight, very shiny & black & yes it does show fingerprints & how that affects sound quality I have yet to work out. With only a button on the front and a socket on the back there's no controls to to fret about and Bob's definitely me uncle. Simple, yes, reliable, we'll see, fun to get working, for me yes.

Works.
After a failed Chinese (cheap but dubious origin) product purchase and return, went for this slightly more expensive branded product.Worked first time, no fuss, proper plug and play. Strategy worked, lesson learned.

Quality Drive
I bought a slightly better specification machine at a slightly cheaper price. Unfortunately that failed after reading one disc. I bought this as a replacement and am really pleased so far. It reads all my discs without problem. It's not the fastest device available but is very quite and reliable. Came with good software which was a plus. I'd recommend.

Hitachi dvd rewriter slim portable
Comes with disc with pc software one of the best dvd cd rewriters ever brought at a good price compared to other less well known brands which don't last long as this good one.

Caveat emptor: NOT a DVD player!
All I wanted was an external D drive to play DVDs and CDs. I cannot believe the HASSLE of initially loading the drivers from the accompanying CD and then, when I inserted a bog-standard R2 DVD to watch a film, I was informed that I'd have to BUY the privilege for £45 via the associated app!WHERE are the old-fashioned laptops with the in-built D drives that played EVERYTHING no problem?Straight back in the box for a return and refund.

A great ripper at a great price
This is a great product for the price from a company that makes high quality electronics. It can rip CD's at a superfast rate and writes DVD's with equal ease. The only flaw would be the tray as thus is a little flimsy, but at this price you can't complain. If you treat it with care it will do all you ask from it.A great purchase and one I would most certainly buy again.

Easy to use
I have only used this for reading data on family history CDs, but it works fine and is easy to use.
