Still the Best Speaker Book for the Money!
I'm a big Weems fan! I bought the 1st edition ~25 years ago. I used the first edition to build dozens of Hi-Fi, Pro-Audio and Car loudspeaker systems. With my first edition getting pretty worn with use, so I recently purchased the 4th edition, and I am very pleased. There are other books, but Weems book is stell the best speaker book for the money! The 4th edition has been edited to the fundamental information required to design loudspeakers. In addition, Mr. Weems added design information on 3rd and 4th order cross over networks and added the governing equations to determine fb, f3 and Vb for closed and vented boxes. The BASIC source code for programs to design speaker and cross overs is also provided. Yea, the BASIC code is a little dated since most operating systems don't have a BASIC interpreter these days. I would like to see the programs downloadable (preferably in VB), but I have used the source code and the equations to write make my own VB application.Weems provides both exact solutions (for math lovers), and the "minimal math" approach as well. Either way, you need to do "some" math to correctly design a loudspeaker enclosure. Most folks, who have mastered high school algebra and can solve simple equations, should be able to use the charts and graphs and design boxes and cross over networks.I recommend this book for everyone from pro's to beginners. For the Physicists and Engineers out there, you may be a little disappointed that the derivation of the solutions are not presented. For beginners, if the design task seems overwhelming, this book will provide a great foundation to buy a kit from one of the online retailers. Either way, if I had to choose one speaker building book, this would be the one.

Strange book
I bought this book to gain some insight into designing my own loud speakers. It was supposed to be hard back book, but it is a paper back book packed in a card board sleeve. The first 250 pages or so is another book entitled Mastering Geopolitical Prediction - Applied Mundane Astrology. I nearly had a stroke until I found the book I wanted in the second half. Its crazy but true. The info in the book about speakers is much too technical for someone like me. A waste if my money. But that's on me.

A good begginers's source (and intermediate refrence) for home speaker construction.
This book is older but still worth a read. Starting off on wizzer cones was a little worrying but hang in there it does get better. If someone is a newbie than this book can offer much. The section on impedance equalization, and filter circuits are good starting points for learning x over circuit construction vs software dependency. The more experienced will weave their way through some gloss overs and things dated, but there are also many solid reminders on the core basics. Box construction is fine for general suggestions but don't expect any dazzling project plans. If you want to perform tests on impedance rise vs freq, check stated speaker ratings,or use drivers without any available specs then this book can start you off on doing basic tests.

Good book for a beginner, ties concepts together well
This is not a book for an experienced speaker builder, nor is it a book for a complete beginner who doesn't know, or want to know, what the most basic electronic components are. Yes, certain aspects of the book are dated, such as the quaint black and white photos and the appendices containing BASIC code that is supposed to be transposed to a floppy disk. If you want a load of project designs or modelling software, the internet is better for that. But for someone who is fairly new to speaker building and interested in understanding some of the design principles involved, it's certainly a great introduction. It's better than anything I have found on the internet at tying together ideas. The parts that stood out for my interests were how crossovers work and how to select their component values, and how to match drivers to cabinets using formulae.

If you want to code your own software
I came across with this book in my search of free loudspeaker design code. If you are planning to code a simple program which will help you in your everyday work, like finding the right size of a box (vented or sealed) depending on the alignment tables or finding the values of a n th order filter, there is a BASIC code at the end of this book which can ease your work. Although the code belongs to an ancient BASIC compiler, the algorithm is quite useful and easy to follow. I have converted the code into C++ and ported it to HP 49G+ with HP-GCC easily. The rest of the book covers some details about building enclosures and the basics of designing a successful multi-way loudspeaker system.

What an amazing book!
Excellent book for beginners. Covers a wide range of concepts with sufficient detail. Of course you need to know some of the science involved otherwise it will sound like Greek and Latin. I use this book to understand the fundamental concepts. If I need more detail, I can always refer to a scientific paper on that specific topic. Author does an excellent job of not only introducing to the concepts, but also tells you what is good and what is bad. For example, in the section about Thiele parameters, he tells you what are acceptable values. I love this book. Worth every penny.

The information is applicable to building speaker with some filler on theory.
Lots of useful information.

これ一冊でスピーカーのすべてを網羅
自作オーディオマニアでスピーカーもテリトリーに入っている人にはお勧め。特に、スピーカーのテスティングまで解説していて、大変参考になった。洋書なので、必要なところだけがんばって訳しましょう。

Good
I've read this book from cover to cover (OK admittedly it's not really designed for that) and found it an informative read. I was particularly grateful for the section on woodwork, the advantages and disadvantages of different materials and joints etc.My only gripe is that the book could have had a small section on active speakers. Though active speakers are technically a speaker and an amplifier, I would have found such a section more useful than the extended section on speaker positioning, which isn't technically speaker design either. But overall, a comprehensive guide with useful examples.

it's a good book for beginning to find out about speakers
I did not start reading it, but browsing pages it is complete so I can make my own speaker box, low-pass/high-pass filter ... it's a good book for beginning to find out about speakers.

Excellent ouvrage
Excellent ouvrage, très didactique, complémentaire à «Introduction to Loudspeaker Design» de John L. Murphy. Permet, en outre d'écrire son logiciel de calcul d'enceinte, de filtre, etc... en reprenant le code source en Basic, ou en l'adaptant dans un autre langage. A recommander.
