It is the size of the waist as the belt is more than 38 inches long.

sre the buckles "real" brass?

I don’t think it is but don’t know how to tell for sure. However, it is not advertised as brass but rather “gold”, I think if it was real brass they would advertise that as a selling point. Plus it is an inexpensive belt and you usually get what you pay for so with those 2 things think it would be pretty safe to assume it is some cheap metal coated gold. On the positive side, it is a very nice belt for the money, don’t know how well it holds up under regular use though, as I use it occasionally when I need to dress like an white collar adult and not the blue collar dude I am.

Is the buckle removable?

I purchased this as a gift, and as I recall, the buckle was not detachable.

Which widths are the two with gold buckles (black and brown) - 1' or 1-1/4'?

I ordered the brown 1 1/4' and it had a gold buckle.
