Not enough story in between the constant sex
This was probably my last book from Schinhofen after buying everything he has put out thus far. I usually skip the sex to get to the story, in this book, once you take away the constant moistness, shafts, ect., there is very little actual story. It could have been titled "Alvin does Gothy, and she does him right back" because teenage boys do not talk about sex as often as these two do. It is not a case of not letting a day go by without long involved discussions of sex with occasional sexcapades, it is more like not letting 2 hours go by without talking about sex, or having it in one form or another even when not in a secure location. I am surprised these two lived long enough to get anywhere without driving into a tree while engaging in some sort of sex. Yes, I know, people have sex, even I have had sex, and like it a bunch. But these two never shut up about it, having it, planning the next time to have it, or discussing the last time they had it.

Needs more story
Went from a good book with a bit of sex to a box of sex with a bit of story gets boring after awhile. It has a great world just had to skip at least 1/3 to maybe half the book as sex scenes just get boring fast

tiresome fat-girl sex
boring dialog. stupid inane chubby chaser fantasy. Judgemental horse-poo actions. not much story here. kept paging past the tripe in hopes of some action. its bad.

Sophomore slump
I don't know what happened between book 1 and 2 but this MC grew to be a tad annoying. I'm certain it's his attachment to Gothy aka Becky but their dynamic is awful. It's a little jarring that everything they do relates back to sex. I get it, it's an adult harem type book but sheesh.....It's too much at times. There is no character growth in the MC and he basically stays the same since book 1. He doesn't even ask about what spells he can use. I mean he can clearly see spell. Then the author decides to scrap major game functions near the end. This is going to get a solid "nah dawg" from this reader. Good luck on book 3.....if you make it there

Changing things up
First and foremost I have to say that the reviews complaining about there being too much sex is a bunch of bull. At most there is half a dozen scenes over the course of the book and that shouldn't be counting the over abundant of sexual teasing/innuendos, since most of that is by Gothy as part of her defense mechanism in order to keep Al interested because of her past abuse. Anyway, while the book didn't do too much to advance the story overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it for the focus of finalizing the relationship between these two broken characters and cemented their love for each other in stone. I do like the idea of a potential harem element being hinted, seeing how this was my first introduction to Schinhofen I don't know what is the norm for his books, and the possibility of the characters changing species or non-human companions joining the party. Can't wait for the next book and seeing what the inevitable end will be.

Not a great sequel
i can not recommend this book. It's a shame really had high hopes. characters didn't really progress. Story was lack luster and the ending was just made no sense.

Hard to give this a decent headline. Its... different. Fun, but different.
Daniel is a good author. He adds way too much sex into his tales at times, but the stories are filled with characters who often grow to be far more than words on a page. Valley of Death was the second book in the series and showed this very well. Becky (AKA Gothy) grows dramatically and her banter with Alvin becomes the backbone of a strange but interesting tale. Some are going to say this is LitRPG, others will say its not because the only time you get a full breakdown anymore is at the end of hte book. I'd argue that the LitRPG elements are rather unimportant even through Alvin and his Gothy exist in a strange world with MMORPG elements. That said I enjoyed this series when I wasn't forced to skim over the sexual stuff (which doesn't impress me.). I like the characters and the ever changing rules of the world result in an interesting changing landscape for our heroes to fight in.Worth the time.

Thanks, but no thanks.
After giving up on book 4 of Alpha World half-way through (only so much repetitive desert marching I can take), I kinda feel like this is the last nail in the coffin for this author in my case.I was happy with book 1 of Apocalypse Gates, but the second only made me happy when I finally finished it. The end came quickly after I skipped through every sex scene and even found myself skimming through the constant repetitive innuendo. I'm sure I'd be super excited about it when I was 12, but in my 30s and with nearly every other LitRPG series having some kind of harem and sex it just gets old.Seriously, two or three of these per book are enough if you have to have them there. I can always skip through them if I'm not in the mood, they're not the reason I read these books anyway, but if at the end I feel like I didn't actually get to experience anything... well, thankfully the supply is high in this market and I can get my story/action fix elsewhere. There's almost none to be found here and what little is there turns out to be very shallow.

The series hits the gas with book 2.
Daniel Schinhofen continues the high quality of the first installment with a well written and insightful sequel. Sometimes the second or third books in a series can feel like they are there as 'filler' and simply a means to tell the reader some things and set up events for later in a planned series - this definitely didn't feel like that at all.Throughout the book the main characters develop steadily in their own ways and whilst there are some big events in the plot narrative the scenes in between are not simply treated as a means of getting to them but are instead played out in fine detail. We get to see definite consistency and development in characters as demonstrated by Al's attitude towards explaining how the new world works (repeatedly) and Gothy's obvious emotional depth that was touched on in the first book begins to be explored here. Jarvis also begins to show some changes as well. One of my favorite things in this book was the banter between Al and Gothy. It wasn't over-done and the affectionate 'nut' every so often made the relationship feel quite believable.Overall an excellent second outing into this world with significant plot development that hints at a long and interesting series to come.

Great sequel to the first book!
This is a great sequel to the first book was some interesting changes in the way the characters and world interact. One thing I would say thou is I hate the cover art has this book, if this had been the first book cover in the series I would not have even picked it up it looks like a poor are manga attempt.Thank God the first book in the series had more grip to it otherwise I would’ve completely missed out on this serious I know I’m probably going to get some hate for this but Most people no matter what they say look at the cover first before they even read synopsis of the book. Please please get the original artist to do the next cover.

A fantastic and sexy adventure!
A great set up for future books in the series as well as a great story in its own right!I enjoyed the fights especially with a certain winged beast giving chase. The more sexy parts were also right up my ally!can't wait for more.
